Glen Powell is a talented actor who probably wants to star in original movies, not just reboots and sequels. But after enjoying his role in the upcoming film The Running Man, I started thinking he’d be a great choice to take over the Die Hard franchise. Now that Bruce Willis has retired, the series has been quiet, but it’s likely Hollywood will revive it eventually with a new hero facing impossible odds in a dangerous situation. Glen Powell would fit that role perfectly.

The Die Hard Franchise Is Currently In Limbo
For years, fans hoped for another Die Hard movie, but those plans changed when Bruce Willis retired from acting in 2023 after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. Combined with complications from the Disney acquisition of Fox, the future of the film series became uncertain. There haven’t been any significant updates about a new installment in the past couple of years.
It’s Hollywood, so a popular series like Die Hard never truly ends – it just pauses for a while. I’m a big fan of the Die Hard movies and have watched the original countless times, and all the others at least twice, even the weaker ones. I’d hate to see the franchise disappear, and while watching the recent remake of The Running Man, I realized why a certain actor would be perfect for a new Die Hard film.

Powell Could Be A Better Action Star Than Willis
It might be controversial, but it’s clear that Tom Cruise isn’t afraid to take real risks for his movies. He’s done some incredible practical stunts, like flying a fighter jet in Top Gun: Maverick and performing a daring naked scene in The Running Man. While I’m a big fan of Bruce Willis and his famous Die Hard stunt, Cruise consistently seems willing to push the boundaries even further when it comes to action sequences.
Bruce Willis wasn’t chosen for the role of John McClane because he did his own stunts, but because of his appealing personality and sense of humor. While I’m not fully convinced Glen Powell is better than Willis yet, he’s definitely talented. Powell has that same charm, wit, and ability to be playfully sarcastic – a crucial quality for a new Die Hard lead. I particularly enjoyed his performances in Anyone But You (available on Hulu) and Hit Man (on Netflix). Powell has everything it takes to succeed in this role, so let’s make it happen!
