Absolute Batman’s Big Bane Conclusion Will Be Delayed, For an Awesome Reason

The most anticipated event ever has been postponed, and fans will understand and appreciate the reason why.

Writer Scott Snyder announced on Twitter on October 29th that the release of Absolute Batman #14 has been delayed from November 12th to November 26th. He explained that he and artist Nick Dragotta added five extra pages to the final battle with Bane. They initially tried to fit it into the original 20 pages, but it felt rushed. DC Comics was supportive and allowed them the extra space and time. Snyder hopes fans will enjoy the expanded fight scene.

The character first appeared in Absolute Batman #9, created by Scott Snyder and Nick Dragotta. This version of Bane is similar to the classic one, at least initially. Both versions grew up in harsh and frightening environments and fought to overcome them. However, this ‘Absolute’ version of Bane mainly functions as a key weapon for the Absolute Joker, rather than operating on his own. As a result, he’s become incredibly powerful with the Venom enhancement and has even played a role in the emergence of other villains like Deathstroke and KGBeast.

From his first appearance, this version of Bane has focused on tormenting Batman. Beyond directly attacking the Dark Knight, he deliberately and viciously injured Bruce Wayne’s closest allies. He was responsible for turning Waylon Jones into Killer Croc while imprisoned at Arkham, and personally disfigured Edward Nygma (the Riddler), Harvey Dent (Two-Face), and Oswald Cobblepot (the Penguin), leaving each of them permanently broken.

Bruce Wayne is fighting back against the dangerous Bane, and to gain an advantage, he’s started using the Venom created by the brutal experiments of Ark M. While this has made him incredibly strong – able to break through steel – it’s also deeply affecting his mental and emotional well-being. His reliance on Venom is also straining his long-term relationship with Selina Kyle, Catwoman, and may prove irreparable. This conflict recently reached a peak in Absolute Batman #13, where Batman used Venom to defeat the entire Red Hood Gang on his own.

Absolute Batman #14 goes on sale November 26 from DC Comics.
