A variant cover for DC’s upcoming Absolute Batman #18 is getting a lot of attention online because it strongly resembles the style of the manga series Chainsaw Man. The artwork directly references the cover of Chainsaw Man #1, using a similar layout but with elements from Gotham City.
New Absolute Batman #18 cover pays tribute to Chainsaw Man
A photo being shared online clearly shows that a recent Batman comic cover is inspired by the artwork from Chainsaw Man #1. The original Chainsaw Man cover, created by Tatsuki Fujimoto, features the character Denji leaping forward with chainsaws extending from his head and arms, all set against a bright orange backdrop with streaks of neon green.
The variant cover for Absolute Batman #18 captures the same raw energy as the Chainsaw Man manga. Batman is depicted in a powerful, lunging stance, wielding massive chainsaws, with green splashes adding to the chaotic feel. The vibrant orange background and action-packed composition strongly resemble the manga’s style, making Batman appear as a fierce, dynamic character seemingly ripped from Fujimoto’s artwork.
A second cover image has been revealed, confirming Clay Mann is the artist. The artwork depicts a powerfully armored Batman battling enemies below, with chainsaws actively swinging. The bold white “ABSOLUTE BATMAN” logo stands out against the orange and green colors, enhancing the sense of dynamic action in this commemorative piece.
The recent tribute has been popular online, but the comic itself tells an important story. Absolute Batman #18 finishes “The Seventh Kingdom,” a two-part story (issues #17 and #18) created by writer Scott Snyder and artist Eric Canete.
This story focuses on Poison Ivy, who was hinted at in previous issues of Batman and the ‘Absolute Batman: Ark M Special.’ She escapes from the experimental facility known as Ark M, and the Joker then sets her loose on Gotham City to challenge Batman.
But hints about the upcoming issue #18 suggest a new threat is on the horizon. The cover art also shows the arrival of the Court of Owls in the Absolute Universe. Usually portrayed as the hidden, wealthy controllers of Gotham, this version of the Court seems to be very different.
Absolute Batman #18, which features a dynamic style inspired by Chainsaw Man and significant developments for the story, will be available on March 11th.
