Aaron Eckhart’s New Thriller Thieves Highway Reveals Action-Packed Clip Ahead of Release

As a huge movie fan, I’m really excited about Christian Bale’s new film! He’s known for so many action roles, and this one looks fantastic. He plays an Oklahoma detective who gets way more than he bargained for – it’s being described as a bit like ‘Breaking Bad,’ which immediately grabbed my attention. It sounds like he’s in over his head, and I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.

Okay, so the latest trailer snippet hints that the confrontation between Eckhart’s character, Frank, and Jones is wrapping up, but honestly, it looks like things are really about to explode. One of Jones’ guys manages to get away, and the others are in hot pursuit. It quickly turns into a shootout – someone takes a bullet to the foot, which messes up their ability to move the truck, and then Frank finds himself in a seriously precarious situation. It’s a total cliffhanger!

Joining Eckhart in this mystery thriller are Devon Sawa, Lucy Martin (known for Vikings), and Lochlyn Munro (from Peacemaker).

Jesse V. Johnson directs Thieves Highway, a new film with a screenplay by Travis Mills, inspired by a story from J.D. Pepper and Mills. It’s important not to confuse it with the 1949 film noir of the same name, which starred Richard Conte, Valentina Cortese, and Lee J. Cobb. Kirk Shaw, Jordan Nott, and Jon Keeyes served as executive producers on this project.

In Thieves Highway, lawman Frank Bennett discovers a large-scale smuggling ring after a violent encounter. When he’s left stranded without communication or his vehicle, Frank must confront a ruthless gang led by a disturbed former soldier. He needs to stop them from reaching the border, not only to fulfill his duty, but also to save his own life.

Thieves Highway Was a Passion Project

I was really excited when they announced this action thriller back in May 2024. Apparently, it’s a project director Johnson – who used to be a stuntman, which explains a lot! – is incredibly passionate about, and Aaron Eckhart feels the same way. Johnson said in a statement that Thieves Highway has been a real labor of love for both of them. They really dug into Travis Mills’ script, using true stories and real people as inspiration to build a really compelling and energetic modern crime film.

Producer Corey Large believes Aaron Eckhart is becoming a major action star, similar to Mel Gibson and Liam Neeson. He highlighted that Eckhart is building a strong reputation with quality genre films, and he’s thrilled their film, Thieves Highway, will help further that. Jesse’s experience with stunts will also make the movie feel incredibly immersive for viewers.

The movie hasn’t been released yet, but people who saw it early have shared some initial reactions. Opinions are mixed – some are calling it a terrible low-budget film, while others describe it as a satisfying story with a fitting conclusion for all the characters.

Thieves Highway premieres in theaters on Dec. 12, with a digital release shortly after on Dec. 16.
