A Super Drug Mutates People Into Gorgeous Monsters In FX’s The Beauty Trailer

The first trailer is here for The Beauty, a new sci-fi series from Ryan Murphy and Matt Hodgson. It’s based on the comic book of the same name by Jeremy Haun and Jason A. Hurley. The series will debut on FX on January 21st and will be available to stream on Hulu and Hulu On Disney+ that same day.

FX Networks has released the official trailer for its upcoming show, The Beauty, following a brief teaser released earlier this month. The trailer begins with a physically fit man, representing ‘The Corporation’ (played by Ashton Kutcher), praising a new drug that promises to make people ‘effortlessly beautiful’.

While he celebrates boastfully on a yacht, he’s observed by Franny Forst, played by Isabella Rossellini, who chillingly declares, “I pray for your death every night.”

The trailer increasingly highlights the dangerous consequences of the drug. Initially, it shows people enjoying the benefits and feeling more beautiful. But after someone questions potential side effects, the scene cuts to a woman visibly transforming and violently lashing out in a busy restaurant.

The trailer also features The Assassin (Anthony Ramos) heartlessly taking lives as he works towards his own goals. We then see a fast-paced montage of how the characters – including FBI agents played by Evan Peters and Rebecca Hall – connect, hinting at a story full of murder, chaos, and emotional drama. You can watch the complete trailer below.

The trailer for Ryan Murphy’s latest show demonstrates his signature style – big, dramatic storytelling – which has made many of his series, like American Horror Story, Nip/Tuck, Glee, 9-1-1, and American Crime Story, successful. Adding to the potential for another hit is a performance by Academy Award nominee Isabella Rossellini.

Though details are still emerging, Franny Forst appears to be a sharply styled and rather harsh character, offering the Conclave star a substantial role with plenty of depth. This fits a pattern for the show’s creator, who consistently provides opportunities for actresses over 60 to play complex and fascinating women, adding a touch of old Hollywood glamour to the series.

Having just worked with Rossellini for the first time on The Beauty, I noticed a familiar pattern in director Murphy’s work. He clearly has a knack for crafting complex, compelling roles for phenomenal actresses. I’ve seen it before with Glenn Close in All’s Fair, Susan Sarandon and Demi Moore in Feud, and even Jessica Lange and Kathy Bates during their time on American Horror Story. He really knows how to showcase strong female performances.
