Building a theme park is a huge challenge, as we’ve seen recently. Epic Universe in Florida has been a big hit, while America’s Heartland in Oklahoma faced problems and ultimately didn’t open. Despite these risks, people are still eager to create new parks. Comedian Nate Bargatzee is planning one, and now another concept is coming to Las Vegas.
A new theme park called RetroEscapes is coming to the Las Vegas area. While details like the precise location are still being worked out, the park’s concept seems like a perfect fit for theme park enthusiasts – and it really might be!
RetroEscapes Is “The First Ever Nostalgia Park”
According to an Instagram post from park developer Daniel Leo, RetroEscapes will be the “world’s first ever Nostalgia park,” as the different lands of the park will each be dedicated to a different decade, starting with the 1950s and running through the 1990s. The design work is being handled by PGAV Destinations, which includes Epcot’s Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, as well as projects at Europa Park and SeaWorld Yas Island, among its portfolio.
Details about exactly what will be included haven’t been released yet, and the creators are emphasizing that the artwork shown is just a starting point, not a promise of what’s to come. This is likely because many of the ideas would require permission to use existing characters and designs, and those permissions haven’t been secured.
Looking at their concept art really gives you a sense of what the RetroEscapes team is aiming for. I mean, they’ve got this Game Bar that totally feels like an ’80s arcade, a ’90s skate park with a serious grunge aesthetic, and even a ’70s disco – and that’s just scratching the surface of their ideas. It’s clear they’re really thinking about capturing those specific vibes from different eras.

Nostalgia Is A Huge Theme Park Draw
It’s always difficult to be certain about new theme park plans, but this concept is actually quite logical. Since Disneyland introduced Main Street U.S.A. – a deliberately nostalgic area representing an idealized past – theme parks have consistently relied on feelings of nostalgia as a key design element.
Creating a theme park centered around nostalgia, with areas representing different decades, could attract a very large audience. It’s a place where multiple generations could visit and each find something they enjoy. Importantly, the park also targets millennials and Gen X – generations now old enough to spend money at theme parks, which is a key factor for success.
Las Vegas could be a great spot for a theme park. The city constantly welcomes new visitors who are looking for things to do during their trips, creating a built-in audience. Plus, Las Vegas is already becoming known for immersive experiences like Area 15, which features attractions such as Universal Horror Unleashed, the John Wick Experience, and the unique Omega Mart by Meow Wolf.
Just because a park idea sounds good doesn’t guarantee it will actually be built, or even turn out well. There are many obstacles that can prevent a project like this from happening, but I’m interested to see how it develops. If it does get built, you can find me enjoying the arcade!
