A Lot Of Gilmore Girls Fans Are Still Team Tristin. Does Chad Michael Murray Feel He Could Have Captured Rory’s Heart If He Stuck Around?

Despite the passage of time since Gilmore Girls originally aired, the lively discussion about whom Rory should have ultimately been with remains an ongoing topic. With its availability on Netflix and its status as a highly rewatchable series, an increasing number of viewers are either revisiting the show or experiencing it for the first time, joining in the conversation about Rory’s romantic life. The main points of contention revolve around Team Dean, Team Jess, and Team Logan, but there is also a faction of fans who favor Team Tristin. Recently, Chad Michael Murray, who portrayed Tristin, has shared his thoughts on whether his character could have won Rory’s affections if he had stayed longer in her life.

Prior to his main role on One Tree Hill, Murray appeared frequently in the first season of Gilmore Girls. He portrayed the wealthy Chilton student Tristin Dugray, who harbored a crush on Rory. Despite her indifference toward him due to his arrogance and unruly behavior, he persisted in pursuing her affection. Although she did acknowledge those feelings at one instance, matters became intricate. Eventually, his conduct led to military school, marking his last appearance on the show in Season 2, Episode 9.

Considering Tristin’s arc was cut short, could there have been more between him and Rory if military school had never been an option? While Murray was promoting Freakier Friday with co-star Manny Jacinto, the two were asked by Capital Buzz which project fans come up to them the most about. After Murray mentioned A Cinderella Story and One Tree Hill, he was asked if fans ever mention Gilmore Girls. He then shared his thoughts on the relationship, and I so wish Tristin had stuck around:

Often, they query me about this: ‘Was Tristin intended to be the final outcome?’ Absolutely, Tristin could have been the final outcome. Let’s agree on that! Let’s agree on that!

Despite the past tension between Murray and Tristin, it appears that Murray has altered his stance. Integrating Murray’s character and Rory into an endgame romance would undoubtedly have steered the narrative of Gilmore Girls in a fascinating direction, offering intriguing storylines to explore.

Rory was gradually becoming more friendly towards Tristin, yet due to her affections for Dean and Paris’ crush on Chad Michael Murray’s character, nothing meaningful could develop between them. It would have been intriguing to explore those complexities and imagine how things might have unfolded, even with Dean still in the picture.

As a person who’s oscillated between rooting for Jess and Logan, I find myself hesitant about another leading man joining the scene. Perhaps my allegiance should have been with Rory all along.

Despite the complications arising from a four-year-old love triangle on “Gilmore Girls”, Murray found himself in another love triangle on “One Tree Hill” which prolonged for several seasons. Although it wasn’t exactly the same situation, it proved to be just as captivating and entertaining as before.

Unfortunately, fans were left wondering if Murray’s romantic arc with Lorelai would last, as he was unavailable for Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. It remains to be seen whether there will be another Gilmore Girls revival, but Tristan might still have a shot – that is, if Rory’s baby daddy isn’t someone else.
