George R.R. Martin has officially confirmed that a second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is happening, and the story will eventually lead back to Winterfell. This new Game of Thrones prequel series is based on Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, telling the story of those characters about 90 years before the original Game of Thrones events.
The first season of the show begins January 18th and is based on the story The Hedge Knight. Even before the first season airs, it’s been confirmed there will be a second season, anticipated in 2027.
In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, George R.R. Martin revealed that the second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will adapt his story The Sworn Sword. He also mentioned he’s working on additional Dunk and Egg tales, with one of them taking place in Winterfell. You can find his complete statement below.
My main problem is I have many more Dunk and Egg stories I want to tell, but I’ve only written three novellas so far. I started working on two new ones recently – one takes place in Winterfell, and the other in the Riverlands – and I really need to finish them.
More to come…
