Be warned, this article contains spoilers for episode 3 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2! The show continues to skillfully weave together its stories from the past and present, delivering emotional scenes and seamlessly connecting events within the Monsterverse. The latest episode dramatically alters a crucial relationship. As seen at the end of episode 2, Titan X appeared in the past, forcing Lee and Keiko to flee for their lives and narrowly escape.
Lee experienced a similar, tense situation recently, mirroring a scene where Kurt Russell’s character used a scarab to distract Titan X and save the Monarch ship. It looked like Lee wouldn’t make it, but as the Apple TV+ series has shown, Russell’s character has a knack for survival. Now, episode 3 ends with another heart-stopping moment.
Bill Randa’s Shocking Discovery Explained
The season 2 premiere featured a dramatic entrance by Titan X and Lee from the Axis Mundi—a portal opened by Cate—followed by Titan X killing Natalie Verdugo. The second episode also had a thrilling conclusion, with Lee barely surviving and rescuing his friends. However, the third episode shifts gears, offering a break from that fast-paced action.
From the very beginning, the heart of the show has been the relationship between Bill Randa, Keiko Miura, and Lee Shaw. However, this connection has always been complicated. Even though Keiko was married to Bill, she found herself attracted to Lee, and they shared a kiss in the first season. This complicated dynamic resurfaced in season two.
In the third episode of Monarch, Lee and Keiko finally confess their feelings for each other, but Keiko later explains in a letter that a relationship isn’t possible. Years later, after losing two close friends within the Axis Mundi, Bill Randa attempts to contact young Hiro and unexpectedly discovers Lee’s possessions, including the letter Keiko wrote to him.
Okay, so the episode cuts to black before Bill actually reads the letter, but trust me, the look on his face says it all. Seeing ‘Lee’ in Keiko’s handwriting? That’s the confirmation we needed – Bill knows about the affair. And honestly, this changes everything. It completely reframes why Billy left Hiroshi, and it’s a genuinely heartbreaking reveal. It adds a whole new layer to the Monsterverse lore, and I’m eager to see where they take this.
We’ll find out if that’s completely true in the next episode. Since the Apple TV+ sci-fi series only shows Billy discovering Kei’s letter at the end of episode 3, the next episode will likely explore what’s in the letter and how Billy reacts to it.
Can Keiko And Lee Ever Let Their Feelings Go?
Billy is in danger because Keiko and Lee are letting their romantic feelings for each other get in the way. In the latest episode, their connection is growing – they nearly kissed during a festival while remembering a previous kiss. The episode shows Keiko and Lee on the run from the townspeople, forcing them to seek refuge in an old, abandoned cabin.
At first, Kei and Lee try to deny their connection, even joking about their initial kiss. But when Kei cares for Lee’s injury, they can’t ignore their feelings any longer. They share a kiss and then intimacy, with Lee confessing he can’t bear to be apart from Kei. Following this, Kei writes the letter that Billy eventually discovers.
She clearly tells Lee how she feels, admitting she loves him, but insists her feelings for Billy are stronger, suggesting she’s made her final decision. Lee is heartbroken and copes by drinking heavily. Their relationship appears to be over, but Billy still gets hurt when he discovers the letter where Keiko confesses her feelings.
What’s Going On With Apex Cybernetics Explained
In the series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, Apex Cybernetics is the central, secretive group pulling the strings. While Monarch is currently working with characters like Lee and Keiko under Tim’s direction (though he isn’t in charge), episode 3 introduces a twist: Cliff Curtis’ character, Jason, from Apex, arrives on the Monarch ship with advanced technology and immediately takes over the operation.
Things really start to heat up between the two teams as they clash over what to do next. We finally find out Apex has been playing a sneaky game all along! They’re after the tech Hiroshi built and start tracking Shaw and his crew to steal it. Meanwhile, I’m getting worried along with Tim – he suspects Apex is keeping even more secrets, so he asks May or Corah to go undercover and find out what’s really going on. I have a feeling we’re about to uncover the company’s true, hidden goal!
What’s Next For Titan X Explained
In episode 3, Titan X makes an appearance. Cate returns to San Francisco to reconnect with her mother and attempt to rebuild a normal life after everything she’s been through. Throughout the episode, she’s deeply troubled by the devastation caused by Godzilla on G-Day and the possibility that she’s triggered a similar catastrophe with Titan X’s arrival.
Now that Titan X is approaching Cate and Monarch has publicly announced its arrival, Shaw and his team are facing a critical time crunch. While season 2 of Monarch hasn’t explained why Titan X is heading where it is, its trajectory mirrors Godzilla’s before G-Day, suggesting a potentially catastrophic event is coming in Monarch: Legacy of Monsters season 2.
