CBS is reducing the number of shows it offers, and the Sherlock Holmes spin-off is among the first to be canceled.
The medical drama Watson, which premiered in January 2025, will conclude after only two seasons. The network announced the cancellation on Friday, as reported by Variety. Created by Craigh Sweeney, the show offered a contemporary take on the Sherlock Holmes stories, starring Morris Chestnut as Dr. John Watson.
Instead of the usual crime-solving adventures with Sherlock, this reimagining of Watson centers on tackling challenging medical mysteries. Watson leads a team of doctors – nicknamed “doc-tectives” – who specialize in diagnosing and treating unusual and rare illnesses.
Season 2 has been full of surprises. Just when it seemed the team had defeated Moriarty (Randall Park), a huge shock occurred: Sherlock Holmes (Robert Carlyle), who everyone thought was dead, unexpectedly returned. This comeback forces Watson to deal with a secret from his past, and a hidden part of himself.
The show is currently halfway through its season and will finish with its last episode on May 3rd. Because it’s been cancelled, it’s uncertain whether the storyline for Watson will have a satisfying conclusion for viewers.
CBS is also canceling the comedy DMV alongside Watson. The show, created by Dana Klein, premiered in October 2025 after receiving a series order in April of that year and a full-season pickup later on. Starring Harriet Dyer, Tim Meadows, and Tony Cavalero, DMV followed the lives of underpaid workers at an East Hollywood DMV, showing how they navigated workplace and personal challenges while dealing with frustrated customers. With only one season, the show’s ending will likely come as a surprise to viewers.
I’m so excited to hear which shows CBS is bringing back for the 2026-2027 season! They’ve officially renewed a bunch of my favorites, including Marshals and George & Mandy’s First Marriage. And it’s great news for fans of crime dramas – CIA, Tracker, Matlock, Elsbeth, FBI, and all the NCIS shows (NCIS, NCIS: Origins, and NCIS Sydney) are coming back too! Plus, I can still enjoy Fire Country, Boston Blue, Sheriff Country, Ghosts, Survivor, and The Amazing Race. So many good shows!
