‘Man on Fire’ Clip Teases Explosive Action to Come on Netflix

It seems there are no limits to what this actor can do. The former DC star demonstrates this in a new clip from the upcoming action thriller reboot. Known for his roles in Aquaman and Watchmen, he channels the energy of John Wick as he plays an ex-soldier seeking revenge in the streaming reboot.

Javier Bardem is stepping into the role of John Creasy, the troubled hero previously played by Denzel Washington in Tony Scott’s 2004 film, which was based on the novel by A.J. Quinnell. Although the original movie received mixed reviews (currently 39% on Rotten Tomatoes), it’s become a popular action thriller with audiences, earning an 80% score on the Popcornmeter. This means Netflix’s new version has high expectations to meet, and this first look suggests it’s determined to deliver.

Okay, so the movie starts a little slow, with Creasy working on this secret mission. But things immediately get crazy when a bunch of armed guys show up and start taking his team hostage! Luckily, Creasy’s got the skills to deal with it. He pulls out his gun and just starts taking people down – seriously impressive headshots and quick double taps, even I was shocked! Then he gets out of there in a huge explosion. Like, a literal explosion – it was awesome!

Modern action movies like The Raid and John Wick have clearly changed the genre, and the new film Man on Fire is following their lead with realistic, intense, and skillfully choreographed action. The preview shows a fast-paced and thrilling scene, using a shaky camera style reminiscent of the Bourne films, but remaining clear and engaging. This suggests Man on Fire, debuting on Netflix April 30th, will be a great addition to the genre.

This action-packed series centers on John Creasy, a former Special Forces mercenary renowned for his ability to overcome any challenge. Now haunted by severe PTSD and inner struggles, John is trying to rebuild his life. But he’ll soon be pulled back into a dangerous world, forcing him to fight for survival like never before.

The upcoming series, Man on Fire, is inspired by the novel of the same name by A.J. Quinnell, originally published in 1980. Steven Caple Jr., who directed Creed II, will helm the first two episodes of the seven-episode season. The cast also includes Billie Boullet, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Bobby Cannavale. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, an Emmy Award winner, is poised to become a major action star, and his performance in Man on Fire has been praised as “really, really fantastic” by co-star Bobby Cannavale in an interview with MovieWeb.
