Marvel may have just hinted at when they plan to introduce a new Black Panther following the passing of Chadwick Boseman. While many thought we’d see a successor quickly, recent news indicates the studio is taking their time with the introduction.
Marvel’s new Black Panther won’t debut in 2026 but 2027
After Chadwick Boseman sadly passed away in 2020, Marvel decided not to find another actor to play T’Challa. Instead, they removed the character from the movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Marvel was planning to introduce a new Black Panther in future Avengers films and had discussions with actors like Aaron Pierre about the part.
Richtman also stated the plans for the new Black Panther’s introduction have changed. He confirmed the character will now debut in Avengers: Secret Wars, slated for December 17, 2027, rather than the previously reported Avengers: Doomsday.
Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, will return as Black Panther in the upcoming movie Doomsday, continuing her role from Wakanda Forever. While she’s featured in early promotional material, reports suggest another Black Panther may appear, potentially sharing the role with her.
Rumors suggest Damson Idris is being considered for the role, and he’s said he’d be interested if offered the part. The movie Black Panther: Wakanda Forever introduced T’Challa’s son, setting up a story that allows a new hero to continue the legacy without replacing the original actor.
The Multiverse Saga gives Marvel new ways to develop its characters, like showing them at different points in time or in alternate universes. One idea is that T’Chanda, an older version of Black Panther from the comics, could appear as a variant from another universe.
If Marvel chooses a new Black Panther, that actor will appear alongside stars like Robert Downey Jr., Pedro Pascal, and Benedict Cumberbatch in the movie Avengers: Secret Wars. This film is planned to wrap up the current storyline in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
