DC Comics has unveiled the new costume for the female Batman, a version inspired by Harley Quinn. However, many fans weren’t impressed with the design. This reveal came after the ‘DC K.O.’ event, a major storyline that caused significant changes throughout the DC Universe. As a result of the event, characters like Harley Quinn gained a strange energy called Omega Energy, which transformed them and even created alternate versions of heroes like Batman.

In issue #60 of Harley Quinn, written by Elliott Kalan and illustrated by Carlos Olivares, Harley Quinn gets a powerful makeover and becomes Batquinn—a Batman-like hero with a darker edge. The comic playfully calls Harley’s version of Batman the “Harq Knight.”

Some people criticize Harley Quinn’s Batman-inspired look, saying it doesn’t quite work. They feel the combination of her red and black outfit with Batman’s dark cowl and cape is a mismatched style.

The costume’s design, with a roughly stitched, detached Batman logo on the chest, wasn’t very appealing, although some felt it captured Harley Quinn’s unpredictable style. Ultimately, it felt rushed and more like a quick joke than a well-thought-out outfit.

It’s happened before, but Harley Quinn recently stepped into Batman’s role. After Batman was arrested at the end of Season 3 of Harley Quinn, she decided to become a real hero and protect Gotham City. To do this, she even got her own unique batsuit.

The batsuit Harley wears in Season 4 of Harley Quinn is a significant upgrade from the Harq Knight design in Harley Quinn #60. It feels more uniquely hers, and the use of her classic pink and blue colors keeps her fun and recognizable personality intact.

Okay, so in the latest issue of Harley Quinn: The Animated Series: Legion of Bats! #3, we finally get a look at Harley’s homemade batsuit – and it’s wonderfully, hilariously DIY. She’s officially part of the Bat-Family now, and her suit reflects that! It’s built on an old Catwoman suit as a base, with a shower curtain – yes, a shower curtain – fashioned into a bat-themed cape. The whole thing has a really cool red-and-black color scheme, which is a nice nod to her original look from Batman: The Animated Series. It’s a clever design that really fits her character.

When it comes to Harley Quinn’s various Batsuit designs in DC Comics, the Harq Knight version is generally considered the least successful. It feels rushed, doesn’t quite fit Harley’s character, and comes across as forced.

The costumes for Harley Quinn in the HBO Max series work so well because they really capture her personality. However, the Harq Knight suit didn’t quite hit the mark – it struggled to blend Harley’s chaotic style with Batman’s dark and serious demeanor.

Compared to other female Batmen, Harley Quinn’s Harq Knight isn’t as compelling as characters like The Drowned or Earth-11’s Batwoman. This is because those versions fully embrace the dark and intimidating look traditionally associated with Batman, while Harq Knight’s style feels a bit disjointed.

Established members of the Bat family—like Helena Wayne, Kate Kane, and Ryan Wilder—have costumes that clearly connect to Batman while still reflecting their individual identities. These designs are polished and carefully created, unlike Harley Quinn’s more makeshift and self-made look.

The comic DC K.O.: Knightfight #3 featured future versions of Batman and his allies, showcasing female members of the Bat-Family like Barbara Gordon, Stephanie Brown, and Cassandra Cain.

These new Batsuits honor the characters’ long connection to Batman, combining bright colors, advanced technology, and distinctive details like white lenses and larger bat-ears. Even when designers try different approaches, the suits still feel like a natural extension of the Bat-Family, staying true to Batman’s focus on strategy and practicality.

Harley Quinn’s ‘Harq Knight’ suit doesn’t quite compare to other Batsuits. Its mismatched design feels more like a joke than a functional suit, and it lacks the same level of thoughtful construction. While it fits Harley’s playful personality, when placed alongside more refined and purposeful Batsuits, it comes across as the least effective.
