Warning! This post contains SPOILERS for Daredevil: Born Again season 2, episode 1
Even though The Punisher won’t appear in season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, his impact is still being felt. The new season shows Mayor Fisk cracking down on all vigilantes in New York, but Frank Castle’s story won’t be a main focus.
I was so excited to see Jon Bernthal as The Punisher in the first season of Daredevil: Born Again – he really made an impact! Even though he isn’t in season two, it’s great to hear that his story and influence are still going to be felt throughout the new episodes. It’s awesome they’re not just leaving that storyline behind.
The Punisher Won’t Appear In Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 (But He Hasn’t Been Forgotten)
In the first season of Daredevil: Born Again, The Punisher broke free from Mayor Fisk’s task force, which had been holding him at Fisk’s Red Hook warehouse. While his escape suggested he might team up with Daredevil against Fisk, it’s now confirmed that The Punisher won’t be in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again.
Even though Frank Castle isn’t appearing in this season, he hasn’t been ignored. The first episode of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 shows the AVTF with new uniforms and armor that include a version of the Punisher’s famous skull logo.
This moment clearly echoes the actions of many AVTF officers in the first season, who mistakenly looked up to Frank Castle. It’s especially reminiscent of Cole North, who pretended to be the Punisher while carrying out orders to kill Hector Ayala’s White Tiger.
The new AVTF has diminished Frank Castle’s impact on fighting crime by exploiting his symbol to represent their own corruption. However, Frank’s influence is still strongly felt in this first episode, and will probably remain a key element throughout the season. This could be enough content for the second season of Daredevil: Born Again. The Punisher will definitely still be a part of the MCU in 2026.
Even Without Daredevil, The MCU’s Punisher Is Still Having A HUGE Year
Even though Jon Bernthal won’t be a major part of Daredevil: Born Again season 2, it’s still a huge year for his character, the Punisher. Just a week after the Born Again finale, Disney+ will release The Punisher: One Last Kill – a 60-minute Marvel special written by Bernthal, and it’s expected to be intensely violent.
Additionally, it’s now official: The Punisher will appear in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which comes out on July 31st.
Frank Castle, known as the Punisher, is set to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the big screen in a new story. He’ll be interacting with Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, both as an ally and an opponent. This is especially notable because both Jon Bernthal (the Punisher) and Tom Holland were first introduced to the MCU in 2016, and they actually helped each other practice lines for their initial auditions while filming a different movie together.
Even though The Punisher won’t be a main character in the second season of Daredevil: Born Again, these new projects will keep him important to Marvel’s gritty, down-to-earth stories. It’s still possible he could appear briefly in a cameo to introduce his upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
The trailers for Born Again season 2 seem to feature the same safehouse Frank used in season 1. Even though Jon Bernthal’s Punisher won’t be as central to Daredevil: Born Again season 2 as he was before, his appearances in two other Marvel projects this year more than compensate for that.
New episodes of Daredevil: Born Again season 2 release Tuesday nights on Disney+.
