Disney boasts a fantastic collection of sci-fi franchises, including titles like Tron, Star Wars, and much of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In 2019, they expanded their portfolio by acquiring 20th Century Fox, adding iconic series like Alien and Predator to their lineup. Alien, created by acclaimed director Ridley Scott, is considered a landmark sci-fi franchise, famous for its groundbreaking combination of science fiction and horror that debuted in 1979. However, despite being part of Disney, this franchise will not be available on Disney’s streaming platform for the time being.
HBO Max will be the new streaming home for all things Alien starting Wednesday, April 1st. A large collection of movies from the sci-fi horror series will become available on the Warner Bros. platform that day.
The upcoming update to HBO Max will add all four original Alien films—starting with Alien and going through Alien Resurrection—complete with alternate cuts. It will also include the two Alien vs. Predator movies, though those were not well-received by critics.
- Alien vs. Predator: Extended Cut
- Alien
- Alien 3
- Alien 3: The Assembly Cut
- Alien Resurrection
- Alien Resurrection: Special Edition
- Alien vs. Predator: Requiem: Extended Cut
- Alien: Director’s Cut
- Aliens
- Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem
- Aliens: Director’s Cut
The latest Alien film, Alien: Romulus, will be available to stream on HBO Max starting Friday, April 3rd. After that date, it will no longer be available on Amazon Prime Video.
The Alien movies used to be available on Hulu and Disney+, but they were removed from those platforms in late 2025. Since then, many fans haven’t been able to easily stream them, so it’s good news they’re now available on HBO Max.
Ridley Scott’s latest projects are coming to HBO Max, adding to the existing collection of Alien: Covenant and Prometheus, which have been available on the service since last summer.
What’s Next For the Alien Franchise?

Although Disney is temporarily licensing out its streaming rights to the Alien movies and shows, they are still fully dedicated to the franchise, which has been around for 46 years. They’re actively working on Season 2 of Alien: Earth for FX, and production is expected to start soon, with the new season planned to launch in 2027.
Following the huge success of Alien: Romulus – which earned over $350 million globally and revived interest in the Alien series – a sequel is now in the works. Director Fede Álvarez won’t be returning for the next film, and Michael Sarnoski, who directed A Quiet Place: Day One, is a strong candidate to take over, according to Nexus Point News.
Even though the Alien vs. Predator movies are now available on HBO Max, Hulu still has all the Predator films. Dan Trachtenberg, who directed Predator: Badlands, recently discussed the potential for another Alien vs. Predator movie in an interview with TopMob.
After securing a deal with Paramount to create new content, director Trachtenberg appears to still be leading the Predator franchise. He has a compelling vision for the next installment: setting the story during World War II and pitting the Predator against the Nazis.
