Marvel Studios is taking a new approach with the release of the second season of its Daredevil series, which continues the story from the popular Netflix show. Daredevil: Born Again officially begins streaming today, Tuesday, March 24th, but it’s being released in a way Marvel has never done before.
Marvel Studios has announced the release plan for Season 2 of Daredevil: Born Again, and it’s a bit different than usual. Unlike other Marvel shows, only the first episode, “The Northern Star,” will be available when the season begins. This is a first for any Marvel series that started on Netflix.
Typically, the first season of Born Again launched with two episodes. This time, however, only one episode premiered, which is a change from its previous format. Unlike older Marvel shows like Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage that used to release all episodes at once on Netflix, this season is taking a different approach.
Only two MCU Disney+ shows have followed that formula: Echo and Wonder Man.
The release plan is also quite different from the norm. Instead of releasing one episode each week, the second week of Season 2 – starting March 31st – will feature two episodes at once. This unusual pace likely serves a purpose within the story itself.
Fans will be thrilled to hear that Daredevil and Kingpin will fight again in Season 2! Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio, who play the characters, will have a physical showdown for the first time in seven years.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really starting to get excited about where things are going with the old Netflix shows now that they’re over on Disney+. It feels like things are finally starting to pick up steam and we’re going to see some cool connections to the wider MCU.
Season 3 of Born Again is currently being filmed, and the show’s creator, Dario Scardapane, says the last few minutes of Season 2 will clearly reveal the direction of the story. He told Dexerto that viewers will have a complete understanding of what’s to come after watching those final scenes.
I recently read an interview with Scardapane where they talked to GamesRadar about where the story is headed after the whole Mayor Fisk arc. It sounds like they’re really planning a genuine evolution of the narrative – something that will be substantial enough to justify expanding the game with more content and stores, which is really exciting to hear as a fan.
Now that we’ve wrapped up the story arc with Mayor Fisk in season 2, and that storyline has reached its natural ending, we’re moving towards stories that feel more inspired by the classic Frank Miller comics. While exploring the political side of things was enjoyable, I personally prefer focusing on more grounded, street-level narratives.
As a huge Marvel fan, I’m really excited about what’s happening after those Netflix shows! It’s not just about Season 3 anymore – the universe is growing fast. We’re getting a special presentation with Jon Bernthal as the Punisher – Punisher: One Last Kill drops on Disney+ in May – and now it sounds like Krysten Ritter might be reprising her role as Jessica Jones sooner than anyone thought! It’s a great time to be a Marvel fan.
Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming and television, suggested on the Phase Hero podcast that a fourth season of Jessica Jones could arrive sooner than fans expect. He said “maybe sooner than you think” when asked about the possibility.
Ritter has remained tight-lipped but optimistic about what’s next for the character, and shared this while appearing on a live podcast.
Brad and I have discussed several ideas that we’re excited to develop further, but I won’t share any details just yet because we plan to bring them to life soon.
Luke Cage, known for his two seasons on Netflix and his appearance in the Defenders team-up series, could be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In an interview on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, Mike Colter revealed that he’s been talking with Marvel and believes a return to the role is “very, very likely” after years of fans wondering if it would happen.
So, I was reading about this, and apparently Colter hinted to TopMob back in February at Fan Expo Vancouver that he’s definitely open to returning. He basically said it would be a real missed opportunity if he didn’t come back for more – super encouraging for fans like me!
Though we probably won’t see Colter return for Season 2 of Born Again, Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones. She’ll be joined by familiar faces from Season 1, including Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Wilson Bethel, and Ayelet Zurer.
A Larger MCU Plan for Netflix Characters

With Marvel increasingly integrating characters from its former Netflix series into its main cinematic universe – like Jon Bernthal reprising his role as the Punisher in Spider-Man: Brand New Day – many fans are now asking if Daredevil might also appear in a Marvel movie soon.
Charlie Cox recently addressed rumors about his appearance in the upcoming film during an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. When directly asked if he’s in the movie, he gave a clear “No.” He jokingly added that even if he were in the film, he’d likely give the same answer to avoid revealing spoilers.
Cox pointed out that Matt Murdock already appeared with Tom Holland as Peter Parker’s lawyer in Spider-Man: No Way Home, which suggests he could return in future Marvel projects, even if not in the Brand New Day storyline.
Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Kingpin – a well-known villain from Spider-Man comics and adaptations – faces some restrictions. He explained in a 2025 interview with the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he’s currently limited to appearing in TV shows. A solo Kingpin movie isn’t possible right now because of complicated rights issues.
Most fans would be excited to see his take on Wilson Fisk battle Spider-Man in a movie.
