After being canceled by Fox, the popular police comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine found a new home on NBC and finished its eight-season run with a heartwarming finale. The show was able to give each of its main characters a meaningful conclusion in 2021. Now, five years later, there’s a possibility the series might return, according to a recent post by one of the show’s actors.

Dirk Blocker, known for his role in Hitchcock on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, is hinting at a possible revival of the show through his recent Instagram posts. He first shared a photo with his co-star Joel McKinnon Miller, playfully suggesting that the pair “might be back.” He then posted behind-the-scenes pictures featuring Stephanie Beatriz (Amy), Dean Winters (The Vulture), and Andy Samberg (Jake), adding to the speculation with the question, “Surely you get it now?” You can see the photos below.

As a huge fan, I was so impressed with how Brooklyn Nine-Nine ended! Unlike a lot of comedies that leave things open-ended, this show really gave us a final goodbye to the 99th Precinct. They weren’t afraid to make big changes – it felt like a true evolution. We saw Holt and Amy move on to bigger and better things, with Holt becoming a deputy commissioner and Amy leading a reform program. And it was so sweet to see Jake decide to retire and focus on being a dad to his son! The ending showed Terry stepping up as the new Captain, leading a team that included Charles, Hitchcock, Scully, and some fresh faces. It was a perfect, satisfying conclusion to a show I loved.

While a revival of Brooklyn Nine-Nine sounds appealing, it’s probably not going to happen. Not only did we lose Andre Braugher, but Melissa Fumero is now starring in a new CBS show called Einstein, and network television productions take a long time. A reboot could focus on Terry’s new team, but that might not be enough to attract viewers without the show’s most popular characters. Another idea would be a prequel series centered around Hitchcock and Sully. The show briefly touched on their backstory, which could be a good place to start a spinoff.

With Brooklyn Nine-Nine still being so popular years after its finale, exploring new shows within that same world makes sense. While a full-on continuation of the original series might be tricky to pull off currently, there are other options for bringing back familiar characters.
