As a big fan of Peaky Blinders, I was really drawn to the dynamic between Cillian Murphy’s character and Barry Keoghan, who played Tommy’s son, Duke. A lot of the film felt like Tommy grappling with his life and what was coming, while Duke really stepped up and prepared to take over the Peaky Blinders after his father was gone. Now that the movie’s out and we know how things ended for Tommy, it’s pretty clear where the show is going next. We already knew a sequel was happening, but the latest news confirms that Barry Keoghan will be back as Duke, which is fantastic – he’s definitely the natural choice to lead the Peaky Blinders into the future.
The upcoming series will span two seasons and center on a new generation of the Shelby family. According to creator Steven Knight, who also wrote the film, a character representing the son of a previous Shelby will be included. In an interview with /Film, Knight confirmed this is a continuation of the family’s story, offering fans a clear idea of what to expect from the new show.

Beyond the confirmation that Duke will appear in the upcoming Peaky Blinders series, little else is known. While Barry Keoghan is now a major movie star, many wonder if he could realistically take over as the new head of the family, given Thomas Shelby’s departure. Creator Steven Knight carefully described Duke as simply being “featured” in the show, avoiding stronger terms like “starring” or “focusing on.” This suggests Duke might not have a central role in the new installment.
