Actor John Boyega recently discussed the possibility of returning as Finn in future Star Wars films. His comments have sparked renewed interest in the character’s potential role and offer a new perspective on ongoing rumors about upcoming projects.
John Boyega has spoken to Star Wars’ Dave Filoni
John Boyega played the character Finn in all three of the recent Star Wars sequel films: The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, and Finn quickly became a key figure in the story.
So, I was reading up on it, and John Boyega just gave an update on whether he’d ever go back to Star Wars. He said he’s actually talked to Dave Filoni, who’s a big shot over at Lucasfilm, about potentially reprising his role as Finn. He dropped this news at MEGACON Orlando when someone straight-up asked him about it – pretty cool!
John Boyega recently revealed he has contacted Dave Filoni, following a fan suggestion. He didn’t share any details about their conversations, but the news has excited fans. This is a positive development considering his previous comments back in November 2025.
During Liverpool Comic Con last year, John Boyega discussed potentially returning to the Star Wars universe with Oscar Isaac’s character, Poe Dameron. He explained that he believes the relationship between Finn and Poe works best as a big-screen experience, rather than on a streaming service.
John Boyega and Oscar Isaac both tend to be quite set in their ways, and Boyega feels their on-screen chemistry is best suited for major film releases. This suggests he’s not currently considering revisiting the characters in a TV series or online. While he may be discussing a potential return with Dave Filoni for a future movie, it’s still too early to say for sure.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I’ve been watching how Disney’s been handling the franchise, and this latest news feels like a big shift. They really focused on Disney+ shows for a while, but now it looks like they’re finally bringing Star Wars back to the big screen! It’s exciting to hear we’re getting a movie based on The Mandalorian and Grogu – it’ll be the first Star Wars film in theaters since ‘The Rise of Skywalker’ back in 2019. It feels like a return to form, and I’m really looking forward to it.
At present, no official announcement has been made regarding Finn’s return.
