Justin Hartley is currently starring in the popular CBS show Tracker, but he still remembers his time playing the Green Arrow on Arrow. He’s definitely interested in returning to the superhero genre if the opportunity arises.

During a recent interview on The Jennifer Hudson Show, actor Hartley expressed interest in returning to superhero roles. He said he’d “love to play a superhero again,” believing his personal and professional growth would allow him to bring a fresh perspective to the part. Specifically, Hartley hopes to reprise his role as Green Arrow, even if it’s a different take on the character.

As a lifelong movie fan, it’s amazing to me how many interpretations of characters we’ve already seen, and how many possibilities are still out there. Honestly, now that I’m older and have lived a bit more life, I feel like I’d bring a completely different perspective to a role like Green Arrow. I’d love the chance to revisit that character and tell a new story with everything I’ve learned.

He suggested revisiting the character with a more modern look – not necessarily the outfit from Smallville, but something a bit more stylish. He envisioned placing the character in a new setting to explore different stories, acknowledging he’s experienced a lot and that could make for compelling narratives. He expressed strong enthusiasm for the idea.

Justin Hartley Could Return as the Voice of Green Arrow

John Hartley might return as Green Arrow, but likely not in a live-action role. Former Smallville stars Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum have been working on an animated sequel series, hoping to bring back many of the original cast to voice their characters. Unfortunately, DC Studios has paused the project, and it’s currently uncertain whether the animated series will ever be released.

Hartley began playing a role on Smallville in 2006, during the show’s sixth season. He remained with the series until it concluded in 2011, appearing in five seasons total. This is the only time he’s played a superhero on live-action television, although he previously auditioned for a role as Aquaman in a CW pilot that wasn’t picked up. More recently, in 2021, he provided the voice for Superman in the animated movie Injustice.

The actor is widely recognized for his role as Kevin Pearson on the popular drama This Is Us. He’s also had significant parts in shows like Emily Owens, M.D. and The Young and the Restless, and has appeared in films including The Hunt, Senior Year, and Bride Hard. Currently, he’s starring as the lead in Tracker, a CBS series that premiered in 2024 to great success. The show is currently in its third season and has been picked up for a fourth.
