He currently has nine films (or eleven, if you count the Kill Bill movies as one story), with his most recent being Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, which came out in 2019. He recently announced he’s shifting his focus away from directing movies and TV shows for the time being and exploring other areas of entertainment.
Quentin Tarantino is venturing into live theater with a new play called Popinjay Cavalier, set to premiere in London’s West End in 2027. The play, a lively comedy about trickery and disguises, is set in 1830s Europe and draws inspiration from classic adventure stories. This marks an exciting new direction for Tarantino, who is now exploring storytelling through a different art form.

Apparently, Quentin Tarantino is diving into a new project – a six-part limited series set in the 1930s, and get this, he’s teaming up with Sylvester Stallone to direct! Details are scarce right now, but the word is it’s going to be a fantastic mix of gangsters, showgirls, boxing, and music. What really has me buzzing is that they’re shooting it in black and white, and rumor has it they’re even using actual cameras from the 1930s to nail that vintage look. Sounds like a visual and storytelling feast is coming our way!

It’s currently unknown if Sylvester Stallone will appear in front of the camera for this project, or if he’ll only be directing. However, he’s experienced in both areas, having directed eight films throughout his career, including four of the first five Rocky movies, Paradise Alley (1978), Staying Alive (1983), and The Expendables (2010). This project will also mark the first time Stallone has worked with Quentin Tarantino.
Quentin Tarantino often sets his films in the past. He’s previously directed movies like Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood (set in the 1960s), the World War II film Inglourious Basterds (2009), and acclaimed westerns Django Unchained (2012) and The Hateful Eight (2015). His new project will give him the chance to depict a different historical period, possibly including the time of the Great Depression.
It’s unclear when the new series will be made and released, as Sylvester Stallone is very busy. He’s finishing up the fourth season of Tulsa King and has also begun working on a sequel to his hit movie Demolition Man. For years, he’s been planning to star in Little America, a sci-fi action thriller with Michael Bay as an executive producer. After pandemic-related delays, filming for Little America is now expected to begin this year, which will probably push back his project with Quentin Tarantino until at least 2027.
