Walker, Texas Ranger Was a Dominant 90s Series
The television series Walker, Texas Ranger was created after the 1983 film Lone Wolf McQuade, which also featured Chuck Norris as a Texas Ranger. Norris played Cordell Walker, a Texas Ranger who solved crimes with the help of his partner, Jimmy Trivette, a former NFL player portrayed by Clarence Gilyard. Sheree J. Wilson played Assistant District Attorney Alexandra Cahill. Over the show’s run, many well-known actors appeared as guests, including Tobey Maguire, Mila Kunis, Danny Trejo, and Selena Gomez.
As a critic, I remember when Walker, Texas Ranger first hit CBS in 1993 – it quickly became a huge hit and a defining show of the decade, consistently topping the ratings. Though the original series wrapped up after nine seasons in 2001, Chuck Norris revisited the role in the 2005 TV movie Walker, Texas Ranger: Trial by Fire. Then, more recently, we saw Jared Padalecki take on the Walker mantle in a reboot that aired on The CW for four seasons, from 2021 to 2024.
