Tom Holland continues to impress audiences. No matter which Spider-Man is your favorite – Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, or Holland – it’s clear Holland has made a significant impact on fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, he’s become the most financially successful Spider-Man in movie history.
Following the very positive reaction to the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer, two of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man movies have quickly returned to the top of Disney+’s most-watched list. Spider-Man: Homecoming and Spider-Man: No Way Home are now at No. 6 and No. 8 on the streaming platform, respectively.
The possibilities are varied, but Holland offers incredible opportunities, and that’s not just a figure of speech.
Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Franchise Is Printing Money
Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man films earned over $3.9 billion worldwide from 2017 to 2021. Now, the first movie in his new Spider-Man series, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, could potentially become even more popular at the box office than Spider-Man: No Way Home.
- 2017 – Spider-Man: Homecoming (No. 6) – $880 million
- 2019 – Spider-Man: Far From Home (No. 8) – $1.13 billion
- 2021 – Spider-Man: No Way Home – $1.92 billion
Peter Parker’s fourth film as Spider-Man has already broken a Hollywood record, and it’s gaining momentum quickly. The trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, released on March 18th, surpassed the previous record in just eight hours.
In … eight … hours.
Spider-Man Proves Street-Level Justice Still Matters
It seemed like Marvel was focusing solely on massive, universe-altering threats, potentially losing sight of its heroes’ roots in street-level justice. However, they’ve shown that’s not the case. While the ten-year story arc leading to Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame involved huge conflicts with both Thanos and Kang the Conqueror, and the stakes kept getting higher, Marvel hasn’t abandoned its more grounded stories.
Joining Charlie Cox in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again series, Wilson Fisk (aka Kingpin) is back to cause trouble and bring gritty, street-level crime-fighting to the Marvel universe – something fans have been eagerly waiting for, as evidenced by the huge response to the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer.
This time, Peter Parker isn’t dealing with interdimensional threats or fixing mistakes caused by his own flaws. This story shows a more grown-up Spider-Man, similar to the one played by Tobey Maguire, facing the fallout of his choices while battling classic New York villains like Scorpion, The Hand, Boomerang, and Tarantula.
With help from Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner (and the ongoing question of whether he’ll transform into The Hulk) and Jon Bernthal’s gritty Punisher, even though Avengers: Doomsday promises another epic, large-scale battle in December, Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows that a compelling story doesn’t need to take place in space or another dimension to be great.
