Gege Akutami’s manga has been consistently popular, appearing on bestseller lists in Japan and internationally for months. Recently, though, a new manga called Gachiakuta, a dystopian fantasy series, has quickly gained popularity.
Kei Urana’s Gachiakuta first appeared in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine on February 16, 2022. Kodansha USA released the first volume in English in North America in January 2024. According to recent data, Gachiakuta Vol. 1 is currently the best-selling adult graphic novel, topping Circana BookScan’s “Top 20” chart (as of January 2026) and moving Jujutsu Kaisen Vol. 28 into second place.
Both Gachiakuta and Jujutsu Kaisen are proving to be incredibly popular with manga readers in 2026, consistently ranking high in sales. Here’s a look at the top 10 bestsellers, according to Circana BookScan.

Sales of volume 28 of Jujutsu Kaisen saw a large increase between 2025 and 2026. While sales were at . in December 2025, they still haven’t reached the level of Urata’s captivating story. The recent jump in sales for Gachiakuta seems to match the release of the anime adaptation produced by .
The series, which originally aired from July to December 2025, is based on a manga and takes place within a gigantic, country-sized structure called The Sphere. Inside, society is divided into classes, and those considered lower class, known as “tribesfolk,” must fight to survive on the edges of this world. Deep below The Sphere lies The Pit, a dumping ground for waste from all levels of society.
Rudo is a teenager ostracized by his community because his father was a known murderer. When his adoptive father is killed, Rudo is wrongly accused and exiled to The Pit – a dangerous place from which no one has ever escaped.
Not long after that, a man named Enjin found Rudo and pulled him to safety. Enjin is one of the Givers – people with the ability to destroy the terrifying creatures living in The Pit. It turns out I also had some hidden powers that started to awaken, and I joined forces with the Givers, hoping we could work together to get me back to the surface world so I could finally get my revenge.
With the anime of Gachiakuta finished, many eager fans are now turning to the original light novels. As of March 2026, seventeen volumes are available in Japan. English readers in North America can currently find the first ten volumes. The author, Gege Akutami, recently concluded the Jujutsu Kaisen manga in September 2024 and has begun a new story that follows Yuta Okkotsu and the descendants of Maki Zenin, shifting the focus away from Yuji Itadori.
