Everyone was surprised when a romance between opposing hockey players became a huge TV hit in 2025, but it seems there’s plenty more to come. Prime Video just released a sneak peek of its new series, part of a growing trend of “hockey romance” stories. While the genre might seem unusual, these types of love stories are becoming increasingly popular, especially in books. In fact, Prime Video’s new show is based on a book series by author Elle Kennedy.
Kennedy’s book series, Off Campus, follows the love lives of players on a college hockey team. The first season is based on her novel, The Deal, and introduces characters who will be central to later stories. The show stars Ella Bright, Belmont Cameli, Mika Abdalla, Josh Heuston, Antonio Cipriano, Jalen Thomas Brooks, and Stephen Kalyn, and has been picked up for a second season.
You can check out the teaser for Season 1 below, with all episodes premiering on May 13.
It remains to be seen if this new story will become as popular as Heated Rivalry, but the two will likely be compared because they share similar themes. However, not all hockey-themed romances are the same, and Kennedy’s five-book series is well-loved, so it has the potential to be just as successful.
