The team behind Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse has shared two recent updates about the film. It was originally announced shortly after Across the Spider-Verse came out, but Sony has now pushed the release date from April 2025 to June 2027.
Spot will look even cooler in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the producers behind Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, recently shared some news about the film.
I’m so excited for the next Spider-Verse movie! I recently read that the villain, Spot, is getting a really cool makeover. The director, Miller, told Variety that this version of Spot will be the most emotionally impactful of the three villains we’ve seen so far, and that they’ve been developing some amazing new things for his appearance. It sounds like it’s going to be fantastic!
Lord also discussed improvements to Spot, explaining that they’ll unlock a new level of creative potential and deliver fantastic results. He also indicated the movie is still on track for its current release date, and expects it to be both visually stunning and deeply moving.
In a February 2026 interview with Gizmodo, Chris Miller discussed the team’s dedication to making Beyond the Spider-Verse exceptional. He explained that their biggest challenge came from their own desire to surpass their previous work and deliver a truly unique and unforgettable experience. They were driven by the need to create a film that lived up to the quality of the first two installments.
Phil Lord explained that the key to their approach is encouraging everyone to experiment and not be afraid of failure. He said the team is fully embracing this mindset and really pushing boundaries, which is fantastic to see.
