This season really throws us into a dark story with a new villain named Luz. She’s completely fixated on revenge, hunting down everyone she blames for her mother’s death – a truly awful group including a wealthy guy running a child exploitation ring and a banker who’s been helping him cover it all up. But the biggest target is Lance Durand, a billionaire who seems to be at the center of everything. As a viewer, it’s fascinating and tense watching Alex Cross and Kayla Craig trying to protect him, even though you know Luz is coming for him!

As I really got into the show Cross, I started to see Luz in a different light. She’s definitely making some questionable choices, but it became clear she wasn’t a villain at all – she genuinely wants to do the right thing. And honestly, season 2 threw me for a loop! There’s a major betrayal revealed, and then a character I really liked unexpectedly steps down. It was a wild ride!

Luz wasn’t just focused on Durand’s death; she wanted him to experience intense suffering. Fortunately, Cross and Sampson arrive just in time to stop her. Faced with the choice of saving Durand or arresting Luz, they surprisingly decide to let her escape.

Once Durant is rescued, he initiates his Prosperity Seed project, intended to solve world hunger. He’s hailed as a hero for addressing the global food crisis, but no one knows about his hidden wrongdoings – not even the police, who won’t press charges. Ultimately, his crimes are revealed by someone no one suspected, bringing everything to a halt.

Why Cross Resigns From The Police Department

Season 2 of Cross deeply challenges Alex Cross’s beliefs about right and wrong and his commitment to the law, making him wonder if things are as simple as he once thought. Throughout the season, he becomes increasingly frustrated with the justice system. But it’s not until the very last episode that he truly reaches his limit.

Alex Cross has gathered strong evidence showing Lance Durand is involved in human trafficking and exploiting children. He believes there’s enough proof to arrest Durand and bring him to trial with a grand jury indictment, but his superiors are unwilling to pursue the case.

The bureau told him that Lance Durand’s company was improving America’s image abroad. They were seen as the solution to the world’s food shortages, and the bureau worried that taking action against Durand would damage that positive perception. This explanation completely changed how he viewed the organization and his role within it.

You know, it hit me hard – I used to believe in the police and the FBI as these purely objective forces for good. But lately, I’ve realized I was part of something… different. It felt less about actually catching bad guys and more about appearances and protecting the way things are. It was a tough pill to swallow, but I finally decided I couldn’t be a part of it anymore, so I turned in my badge. I just couldn’t work within a system like that.

Who Really Caused Luz’s Mother’s Death

In season two of Cross, Luz dedicates herself to finding those responsible for her mother’s death. But she soon discovers a shocking truth: while Durand committed the act, it was actually Luz’s aunt, Clare, who ordered it.

Clare hired Durand to murder her sister, intending to use Luz as a tool for revenge. This scheming makes Clare just as responsible as Durand and anyone else involved. Fortunately, Luz doesn’t need to seek retribution against Clare because Alex already killed her sister.

Luz initially appears to die by suicide, jumping from a bridge, but this turns out to be a false alarm. She’s later seen alive at the funeral of someone killed by Durand. According to Ben Watkins, the creator of Cross, they didn’t want to permanently remove Luz from the story.

How Pete Becomes The Unexpected Hero Of Cross S2

In the second season of Cross, we meet Senator Pete Ashford, a likeable politician who unknowingly owes his achievements to a dark secret. His mother, while in a position of power, accepted bribes to drop criminal charges, effectively denying justice to the victims.

Pete is shocked by this discovery and feels helpless to fix the situation. Fortunately, he eventually finds a way to atone for his mother’s actions. At the conclusion of season 2 of Cross, Alex Cross provides Pete with a flash drive containing the evidence needed to confront Durand.

Senator Ashford used to back funding for Prosperity Seed, but he changed his mind after uncovering wrongdoing by Durand. He then revealed Durand’s actions and proposed a new bill, the Corporate Responsibility Bill, to ensure similar issues don’t happen in the future. This led to an investigation of Lance’s farm, where investigators discovered buried bodies.

How Cross Season 2 Sets Up Season 3

As a big fan of the Cross series, I think the biggest thing season 2 did to set up season 3 was having Alex Cross leave the police force. Now, the writers really need to give us a good reason for him to rejoin – I’m excited to see what they come up with!

Throughout the season, the show developed Alex’s main enemy, Mastermind, who appears in the Cross series. The next season of Cross will probably continue to focus on this villain, and may or may not reveal their true identity.

Plus, the potential relationship between Kayla and Alex is over. Kayla broke Alex’s trust by secretly tracking his location, which resulted in his arrest. This event will significantly change how things play out on the show.

Alex has experienced heartbreak three times in a row. Throughout it all, Kayla has been a loyal friend and has assisted him with his work. If he returns to the police force, he’ll lose a valuable ally.

We might see some minor plot points from season 2 reappear. Since Luz survived falling into the river, there’s a possibility she’ll return in season 3 of Cross. Additionally, Pete could remain an ally to Cross going forward.

Ash Crossan from ScreenRant spoke with the creator of Cross, Ben Watkins, to discuss the ending of season 2 and how it sets up season 3. When Crossan asked Watkins what happens now that Alex has left the team, Watkins explained his vision for the future.

I’m really pleased with how the season ended, and I wanted to set up a compelling storyline for Cross. Throughout the season, he’s established himself as a detective and someone who protects others, but by the end, he’s questioning if being a police officer is the right path for him. This creates an interesting challenge for us – how do we bring him back into that world? Season three will focus on finding a case that’s significant enough to draw him back in, while still acknowledging and exploring the reasons he was conflicted in the first place.

The showrunner revealed that Mastermind will be the main villain in a future season, which fans of James Patterson’s Alex Cross novels will likely appreciate, as he’s a well-known character. It appears the team behind the show has a solid vision for the story, not just for the confirmed season 3, but for future seasons as well.
