2026 is shaping up to be a great year for thriller lovers! We’ve already seen some big hits like Scream 7 and Return to Silent Hill, and there are plenty more exciting thrillers planned for the rest of the year.
We’ve got a great lineup of new movies coming soon, including highly anticipated sequels and a fresh take on a beloved film from the 90s. These movies feature impressive casts and cover a wide range of genres, from thrilling shark adventures to gripping stories of revenge.
Looking for a scary or suspenseful movie? Here are 9 upcoming thrillers you won’t want to miss.
9. Cliffhanger (August 28, 2026)
The new movie Cliffhanger, coming out on August 28th, is a fresh take on the 1993 film starring Sylvester Stallone. However, Stallone won’t be appearing in this version. Instead, Lily James and Pierce Brosnan will lead the cast in the 2026 release.
It’s still unknown how similar the plot of the new film will be to the original 90s movie, but we do know James will be playing a character similar to the one Stallone played before. She and Brosnan star as a father and daughter who run a high-end chalet in the Dolomites mountains.
When a group kidnaps them, everything falls into chaos, and James’ character must rely on her training to survive. The original 1993 film did well in theaters, but plans for a follow-up, titled Cliffhanger, faced numerous problems and delays before the idea changed to a complete restart.
8. A Quiet Place Part 3 (July 2027)
The next A Quiet Place movie won’t be released until the summer of 2027. However, people really love these films, and the new one promises to be great!
I’m really excited about A Quiet Place Part 3. It’s set in a world after some kind of disaster, and it’s just completely taken over by these incredibly scary monsters. They’re brutal, and you really feel the threat, but apparently, there’s a key to surviving – they have a weakness, which definitely adds a layer of suspense!
The movie focuses on creatures that track their prey by sound, forcing people to remain silent in order to survive. The story follows the Abbott family’s fight to live, and viewers are hoping the new film will reveal more about their world and the creatures that haunt it.
The release of A Quiet Place Part 3 has been delayed a few times, but it’s currently scheduled to come out in July of next year.
7. Apex (April 24, 2026)
The new Netflix series Apex, starring Charlize Theron, premieres in April. It follows Sasha as she battles for her life against a dangerous and relentless attacker.
The first look at Apex shows Sasha as a thrill-seeker venturing into the Australian outback. She soon crosses paths with her opponent, portrayed by Taron Egerton, who appears to be thoroughly enjoying his role as the bad guy.
In the trailer, Egerton happily warns Theron, “Run for your life!” as they become entangled in a dangerous chase through the wilderness.
As of now, it looks like Apex won’t be shown in movie theaters, meaning you’ll be able to watch this thriller from the comfort of your home.
6. Deep Water (May 1, 2026)
Although Deep Water isn’t being advertised as a standard thriller, the trailer suggests it will be a suspenseful and gripping film.
The film features Aaron Eckhart as a pilot on a commercial flight when the plane suddenly bursts into flames over the ocean, sending debris falling into the water.
In the trailer, we see one character, played by Eckhart, telling a coworker they need to find anyone who survived. A woman is shown jumping from the damaged plane into the water, only to be quickly attacked by a shark. While the full story isn’t clear, the movie looks like it will be a thrilling experience, especially for those who enjoy suspense and monster movies.
5. Pretty Lethal (March 25, 2026)
Pretty Lethal is the latest film to bypass movie theaters and premiere directly on Amazon Prime Video. It features Uma Thurman and follows a team of talented ballerinas whose tour bus breaks down, leaving them stranded at a secluded inn.
Uma Thurman stars as both a once-gifted ballet dancer and the leader of a gang. The young dancers will need to put aside their conflicts to make it through the dangerous situation they find themselves in. The film is rated R and the trailer shows a lot of violence, combined with impressive fight choreography inspired by ballet.
The film Pretty Lethal debuted at the South by Southwest Film Festival earlier this month and will be available for general audiences to stream on Amazon Prime starting March 25th.
4. Ready Or Not 2: Here I Come (March 20, 2026)
I’m so excited for Ready or Not 2: Here I Come to finally premiere on Friday! It’s a direct continuation of the first movie, which I absolutely loved. That original was such a brilliant mix of dark humor, genuine scares, and, let’s be honest, some incredibly over-the-top kills. I’m really hoping the new one delivers even more of what made the first one so special.
In the thriller Ready or Not, Grace (Samara Weaving) marries into a rich and secretive family, only to learn about their strange wedding night tradition. She’s forced to play a deadly game of hide-and-seek, and if the family finds her, the consequences are dire.
I really loved how inventive the kills were in the first film, so I’m hoping the sequel delivers on that same level of creativity. Thankfully, Erin Weaver is back as Grace in Here I Come, and they’ve added some fantastic new faces like Elijah Wood and Sarah Michelle Gellar to the mix, which is super exciting!
3. Whalefall (October 2026)

Great thrillers often tap into our real-life fears and what we expect to happen in scary situations. The novel Whalefall is especially frightening, telling the story of a scuba diver who is actually swallowed by a sperm whale.
I’m really intrigued by Whalefall! From what I’ve gathered, it’s about two scuba divers, and it’s awesome that Josh Brolin is involved. Plus, I’m a big fan of Austin Abrams from Weapons, so seeing him in this too has me excited!
A diver is on a harrowing mission to find his father’s remains, but faces an unimaginable danger: being swallowed by an 80-foot whale. Miraculously surviving, he struggles to escape before his air runs out. This terrifying story is the basis of a thriller coming this fall.
2. Is God Is (May 15, 2026)
The play Is God Is centers around two sisters driven by a desire for revenge. The trailer reveals their mother instructing them to kill their father.
The trailer shows a disturbing backstory: the father intentionally set the protagonist on fire in front of his children, then left them all. Despite this dark premise, the movie appears to have a surprisingly upbeat and energetic feel. Kara Young stars as the tough, outspoken character, and Mallori Johnson plays her quieter, more reserved sister.
The movie features a cast of increasingly wild and eccentric characters. It’s rated R, meaning it contains strong violence as the two main characters pursue their goal, causing destruction everywhere they go.
1. Over Your Dead Body (April 24, 2026)
Over Your Dead Body is a funny and suspenseful thriller about a couple with relationship problems who go to a remote cabin hoping to fix things. But they soon find out their spouses actually intended to murder them, not reconcile.
The film features Jason Segel as Dan and Samara Weaving as Lisa, two people unexpectedly tasked with being killers. They’re both completely inexperienced, which leads to a lot of funny moments as they fumble their way through it.
Director Jorma Taccone shared that Over Your Dead Body is based on the 2021 Norwegian Netflix film The Trip. The cast mentioned in an interview that their version is more violent than the original, which already had a lot of blood. While they’ve included comedic moments, they aimed to keep the overall feeling of the original movie intact.
