The Madison tells the story of the Clyborn family, who move from New York City to Montana’s Madison River Valley to begin a fresh start. The show, created by Taylor Sheridan, was initially approved by Paramount in 2023 and premiered in 2026. Given Taylor Sheridan’s previous work, viewers might automatically categorize anything set in Montana as a Western, but the Western genre encompasses more than just a Western setting.
Although many people assume The Madison is a continuation of Yellowstone, the two shows aren’t actually linked. However, The Madison excels in an area where Yellowstone often fell short. While Yellowstone focused heavily on violence and family conflict, The Madison explores a more sensitive and emotional side of life in Montana. Starring Michelle Pfeiffer, the series taps into a different, more heartfelt feeling of the West, offering a depth of emotion that Yellowstone rarely achieved.
Sheridan is a truly gifted storyteller. Though not a classic Western, the show captures the feel of modern neo-Westerns, as Kurt Russell points out.
