Prime Video is quickly moving forward with another season of the show. Production for Season 2 is already underway, just a few days after the series began streaming.
Prime Video announced on social media that filming for Season 2 of Scarpetta is officially underway. The streaming service, owned by Amazon, released a video featuring stars Nicole Kidman, Jamie Lee Curtis, and the rest of the cast to share the news with fans. During the announcement, Curtis playfully said, “Let’s freaking go!” – letting everyone know production has begun. You can see the announcement post below.
Scarpetta Is an Instant Hit for Prime Video
The new series Scarpetta is being compared to Prime Video’s popular Reacher. Both shows are based on bestselling crime novels and follow unconventional heroes as they solve cases. While both protagonists are resourceful, a main difference is that Nicole Kidman’s character, Dr. Kay Scarpetta, uses intelligence and high-tech forensics to get the job done, whereas Jack Reacher, played by Alan Ritchson, relies more on physical strength.
It’s still uncertain if the Scarpetta series will achieve the same success as Reacher, but it’s started strong. The first season, with eight episodes, launched on Prime Video on March 11th and quickly became a popular hit, debuting as one of the platform’s top shows in the US. Amazon clearly had faith in the series from the beginning, renewing it for two seasons before the first even aired, which allowed production on new episodes to begin immediately.
Scarpetta Takes Inspiration From a Hit Book Series
As a huge fan of Patricia Cornwell’s books, I was thrilled to see Scarpetta come to life on Prime Video, and Liz Sarnoff really did a great job adapting it. Of course, Nicole Kidman is fantastic as Kay Scarpetta, but the supporting cast is amazing too! Jamie Lee Curtis plays her sister, Dorothy, and it’s wonderful to see their dynamic. Dorothy’s husband is a forensic specialist, and Simon Baker plays Kay’s husband, Benton Wesley, an FBI profiler. Plus, Ariana DeBose is brilliant as Lucy, Dorothy’s daughter who’s a computer programmer – the whole family is just so compelling to watch.
The new Prime Video series stars Nicole Kidman as Dr. Kay Scarpetta, a determined medical examiner. She’s driven to give a voice to victims, catch a serial killer, and defend her most famous case from decades ago. Set in the world of modern forensics, the show is a complex thriller that goes beyond the crime scene to explore the minds of both criminals and the investigators trying to stop them, and the personal cost of relentlessly pursuing justice.
Scarpetta is streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have an official premiere date.
