Despite not doing well in theaters after its release earlier this year, the post-apocalyptic horror film starring Cillian Murphy is coming to Netflix later this month. While it wasn’t a box office success, critics and viewers generally liked the movie, praising its unique style and the actors’ performances, which resulted in strong scores on Rotten Tomatoes.
28 Years Later: The Bone Temple sets Netflix streaming date for this month
The movie ‘Years Later: The Bone Temple,’ featuring a cameo by Cillian Murphy, is expected to begin streaming on Netflix on March 31st, according to What’s on Netflix. This is happening because of an agreement between Sony Pictures Releasing, the movie’s distributor, and Netflix. It was first available to rent or buy digitally on February 17th.
The way this movie became available for streaming is surprisingly fast. Usually, Sony films take around three to four months to appear on streaming services. However, ‘The Bone Temple’ premiered in the UK on January 13th alongside the previous film, ’28 Years Later,’ and was available to stream on its own the very next day. It then came out in the United States on January 16th.
The movie earned about $57.9 million worldwide after its release, but it cost $63 million to make. This is a contrast to the previous three films in the series, which were all financially successful. Here’s a look at how those earlier movies did at the box office:
- 28 Days Later (2002) – $82 million against an $8 million budget
- 28 Weeks Later (2007) – $72 million against a $15 million budget
- 28 Years Later (2025) – $151 million against a $60 million budget
The Bone Temple is the middle installment of a three-part series, following ’28 Years Later’ and leading to a currently unnamed final movie. While it didn’t make much money in theaters, critics generally liked it.
The horror-thriller has received very positive reviews. Rotten Tomatoes reports a 92% approval rating from critics and an 88% audience score, both indicating strong positive feedback. Metacritic gives the film a score of 81, meaning “universal acclaim,” along with a user score of 7.3, which suggests it’s “generally favorable.”
The movie continues right after the last one ended. Sir Lord Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell) rescues Spike (Alfie Williams) from zombies and then invites him to join his dangerous cult, known as the Jimmys. As Spike tries to cope with the cult’s violent and cruel practices, he becomes friends with another member, Jimmy Ink (Erin Kellyman). At the same time, Dr. Ian Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) unexpectedly connects with Samson (Chi Lewis-Parry), a powerful zombie.
