As a huge fan, I always loved watching Harry, Ron, and Hermione grow up, and I especially enjoyed experiencing all their adventures with them, even knowing something dangerous was always on the horizon. When you first watch the Harry Potter movies, you get the big picture, but it’s amazing how many little details you pick up on when you rewatch the whole series. 10. The Series Tone Dramatically Shifts

The Harry Potter films definitely become more serious as the series goes on. But you really notice how quickly things turn intense when you watch them all one after another.

The first Harry Potter movie, The Sorcerer’s Stone, presents a magical world that feels playful, boundless, and full of happiness. However, the sense of wonder starts to fade in the second film, and the series becomes progressively darker after that.

Harry faces challenges directly, often getting through them with courage and a bit of luck. Hermione’s intelligence is essential to the group’s survival, as her vast knowledge of magic repeatedly saves them from danger.

Finally, Ron is incredibly loyal. While he might not be as courageous as Harry or as intelligent as Hermione, he’s the glue that keeps the group united, and they truly wouldn’t succeed without him. This dedication remains a constant throughout their adventures.

7. Background Characters Get Their Chance To Shine

The main characters stay pretty consistent throughout the films, but many of the supporting characters develop and have moments to stand out.

Neville Longbottom, played by Matthew Lewis, is a great example of this character development. He begins as a shy student in the first movie, but gradually gains confidence. Throughout the series, we see him practicing and improving his defensive skills, and ultimately, he bravely stands up to Voldemort in the final film. He also plays a crucial role in defeating Voldemort by destroying Nagini with the Sword of Gryffindor.

Draco Malfoy, played by Tom Felton, develops as a character throughout the series. Initially presented as a cruel bully, we eventually see him begin to doubt his loyalty to Voldemort, even though his family strongly supports him.

6. Snape Constantly Protects Harry Throughout The Series

Severus Snape, played by Alan Rickman, is a mysterious figure throughout the movies – we’re kept guessing about where his loyalties truly lie until the very end. Interestingly, he repeatedly saves Harry’s life without ever getting any acknowledgment or gratitude.

This dynamic is clearly shown in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. When Harry’s broom acts strangely during a Quidditch match, Hermione and Ron wrongly suspect Professor Snape of using a curse on it. In fact, Snape is secretly working against a spell cast by Professor Quirrell.

Even though Dumbledore is powerful, he’s not perfect, and his weaknesses become clearer in the later Harry Potter films. He underestimated the risks of teaching Tom Riddle, and his attempt to push Harry away in The Order of the Phoenix actually caused more problems. He also wasn’t able to prevent the Ministry of Magic from taking over Hogwarts.

He’s a legendary wizard for a reason, but is not beyond making mistakes.

As we’ve seen, Snape saves Harry’s life several times, but he’s a far more complicated character than simply a distant protector. If you pay close attention while watching the movies, you’ll realize Snape consistently misled almost everyone around him.

Sirius Black and Severus Snape never had a good relationship, even though they both fought against Voldemort as members of the Order of the Phoenix. On the opposing side, Bellatrix Lestrange made Snape swear a magically binding vow to prove his allegiance to Voldemort.

Dumbledore was the only one who truly understood Snape’s reasons for his actions, consistently placing his faith in him. The audience doesn’t learn what Snape was really planning until Nagini seriously wounds him.
