New promotional artwork for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been released, showcasing the eight main characters. The movie, coming out on April 1st, isn’t just based on the Galaxy games from the Wii; it’s drawing inspiration from many of Nintendo’s 3D platforming adventures. The poster gives us a first look at the cast and suggests what their roles might be.
As a huge movie fan, I’m getting so excited! We’re officially in the final stretch – less than a month until the new animated film hits theaters. It’s going to be great to see the original cast back, and apparently, there are over 40 characters total! The latest poster just dropped, and it focuses on the eight main players – a mix of familiar faces and some brand new ones. I can’t wait!

The poster prominently features Mario (Chris Pratt) soaring through space, hinting at the epic scope of this new film. Unlike previous stories that focused on Mario’s beginnings, this adventure jumps right into the action with a more experienced hero.
As many long-time fans wanted to see, Mario will be using more special Power-Ups this time around.

True to his charm, Luigi (Charlie Day) is floating through space, looking slightly out of control.
Even though he’s still a helpful sidekick in this new game, many fans are hoping Nintendo will eventually make a game starring Luigi, like a follow-up to Luigi’s Mansion. His important role here is similar to how he became a playable character in the Super Mario Galaxy games.

Peach, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, confidently travels through space with her signature parasol, proving she’s a strong leader and definitely not someone who needs rescuing.
Promotional material for the movie hints that the character will be going on a significant adventure of her own. This is a change from the original Galaxy games, where she was best known for being held prisoner by Bowser’s army.

This Toad, played by Keegan-Michael Key, teams up with Princess Peach and they seem like a powerful duo in the movie.
He’s officially switched from his usual outfit to his Captain Toad look, including his trademark headlamp and backpack.

The main villain from the first movie is back, but this time, someone else is calling the shots.
Still shrunk down from a magical mushroom in the last film, Bowser (Jack Black) is shown on a poster standing on top of Yoshi, acting like he’s giving the dinosaur orders.

Fans who waited after seeing a hint at the end of the first movie will be happy to see Yoshi finally appear in the sequel! The new poster features the popular green dinosaur happily floating in space, with a tiny Bowser perched on top of his head.
I think it’s so cool how much this character reminds me of his role in Super Mario Galaxy 2. He really changed how you get around in those games, introducing totally new ways to explore! And honestly, you know a character is a big deal when they’re featured on the latest collectible popcorn bucket – it just shows how popular they are!

As a lifelong cinema fan, I was completely captivated by Brie Larson’s portrayal of Rosalina. She’s more than just a character; she’s this incredibly powerful, almost maternal figure who watches over the universe and these little star-like creatures called Lumas. Honestly, she feels like the perfect connection to everything we love about the Super Mario Galaxy games – she is that world for me.
She appears to be a key figure in the movie’s story, and we know she’ll demonstrate four different abilities when it’s released.

Bowser Jr. (played by Benny Safdie) is the main villain in this space adventure, and a new poster highlights just how dangerous he is. The poster shows his face taking up a lot of space and merging with the starry background, making him seem like a huge threat to the heroes.
Even with the focus on certain characters, fans have observed that a major hero from The Super Mario Bros. Movie won’t be back in the planned 2026 sequel.
The Missing Donkey Kong Mystery

Fans have noticed Donkey Kong (DK) isn’t appearing in any promotional materials for the new Galaxy Movie, leading to speculation he might not be in the film. Some believe this is to prevent the cast from becoming too large. DK, voiced by Seth Rogen, was a key character and featured prominently in the first movie, along with his Jungle Kingdom.
Because the upcoming movie is set in space and features unique gravity-based gameplay, the Kong family, who usually live in a jungle environment, might not fit the story as well as they did in the original game. Donkey Kong wasn’t included in either of the Galaxy games, which suggests a shift in focus.
Some believe Illumination is deliberately reducing Luigi’s role to focus on a possible Donkey Kong movie. By minimizing his presence now, the studio can highlight Rosalina, the Lumas, and other Mario characters.
