Despite coming out in theaters in 2019 and not performing well at the box office, the film Ad Astra is now readily available on a free streaming service. This gives viewers who missed it in cinemas another opportunity to watch it.
You can now watch Ad Astra for free on Tubi. Despite costing around $100 million to produce, the movie didn’t make much money at the box office, earning just over $135 million worldwide. However, this wasn’t because it was a bad film – critics generally liked it, giving it an 83% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Brad Pitt’s performance was especially praised by reviewers.
Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones Co-Star in Ad Astra
James Gray directed and co-wrote the screenplay for Ad Astra, a film about astronaut Roy McBride who travels throughout the solar system to investigate dangerous energy surges that are threatening Earth. These surges are thought to be linked to the decades-old disappearance of Roy’s father, Clifford McBride (played by Tommy Lee Jones), who was searching for life beyond our planet.
According to Gray, actor Roy Pitt plays a character in the movie Ad Astra who believes the secrets to life can be found in space. However, he ultimately discovers that what truly matters is connecting with other people.
Pitt described the film as a deeply human story centered around finding oneself. It explores questions of vulnerability and strength, and where true strength originates.
Brad Pitt and Tommy Lee Jones are joined by a talented cast in Ad Astra, including Ruth Negga (known for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Liv Tyler (Armageddon), Donald Sutherland (The Hunger Games), John Ortiz (Kong: Skull Island), Greg Bryk (Reacher), Loren Dean (Apollo 13), and Natasha Lyonne (Poker Face). Pitt and director James Gray also produced the film, along with Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Anthony Katagas, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Arnon Milchan.
Brad Pitt’s Latest Movie Is Up for Best Picture
While Ad Astra wasn’t a huge commercial success, Brad Pitt has continued to thrive as an actor. He recently starred in F1, which earned over $633 million worldwide and is nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Visual Effects – the same category Ad Astra received an Oscar nomination in.
Brad Pitt is currently filming a follow-up to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 film, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. David Fincher is directing the new movie, with Pitt reprising his original role. It’s planned for a limited theatrical release later this year, followed by streaming on Netflix, though a specific release date hasn’t been announced yet.
Ad Astra is streaming on Tubi.
