Netflix’s latest action movie, a sci-fi thriller starring Alan Ritchson, is a big success! Six days after its release, it’s still the most-watched film on the platform and has racked up impressive viewing figures. The movie follows Staff Sergeant 81, an Army Ranger trainee, and his unit when they’re unexpectedly attacked by a strange alien object during a training exercise.
The movie War Machine quickly became a hit on Netflix, reaching the number one spot just one day after its release on March 6th. It’s stayed there ever since, proving more popular than titles like Nuremberg, Trap House, and the recent Jurassic Park installment, Jurassic World Rebirth.
The film War Machine truly shines when looking at its viewership numbers. According to Tudum, it amassed 39.3 million views and a total of 71.4 million hours watched in just one week (March 2nd–8th). Remarkably, the movie only premiered on March 6th, meaning these impressive figures represent only two days of viewing – a huge success for the sci-fi thriller. It’s exciting to imagine how much higher those numbers will climb next week after a full week of release, but they’re sure to be outstanding.
‘War Machine’ Is the Perfect Action Thriller Throwback
Directed by Patrick Hughes and featuring Dennis Quaid, Stephan James, Jai Courtney, and others, War Machine is an action-packed film with a straightforward and enjoyable story. It feels like a classic action movie from the past.
This movie doesn’t require deep analysis – and that’s a good thing! It’s a fantastic action thriller that’s relentlessly intense and violent, successfully combining science fiction, survival horror, and realistic military action. Mike Ritchson delivers a standout performance, reminiscent of classic action heroes like Arnold Schwarzenegger in Predator. Plus, with a tight 107-minute runtime, War Machine keeps the excitement going without dragging on.
What’s Next for Alan Ritchson?

Netflix
It’s still uncertain if Alan Ritchson will reprise his role in a War Machine sequel, but the possibility hasn’t been ruled out. In the meantime, Ritchson, known for Reacher, has plenty of other projects keeping him occupied.
He’s already wrapped up filming the fourth season of his popular thriller series, which is coming to Prime Video later this year. Plus, he’s starring in a new action movie called The Man with the Bag. He plays a small-time thief who’s unexpectedly hired by Santa Claus (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to recover a stolen sack of presents. While there’s no confirmed release date yet, it’s predicted to debut sometime in late 2026, similar to the premiere timeframe for Season 4 of Reacher.
While we wait for updates on what’s next for Alan Ritchson, don’t miss his new movie, War Machine, now streaming on Netflix. You can also watch our interview with Ritchson and director Hughes above, where they talk about the sci-fi thriller.
