Scary Movie 6’s Marlon Wayans Reveals Why 1 OG Star Isn’t in ‘Rebooquel’

The next Scary Movie installment will bring back several original cast members, but not everyone is returning. Marlon Wayans recently explained that he wasn’t asked to participate, even though he was open to the idea.

The next installment, releasing on June 5, 2026, brings back the masked killer from the original film. This forces Cindy Campbell (Anna Faris) and her friends to team up once again and face the threat.

Marlon Wayans reveals why Shannon Elizabeth isn’t in Scary Movie 6

Marlon Wayans recently explained to The Shade Room why Shannon Elizabeth, known for her role as Buffy Gilmore in the first Scary Movie, won’t be appearing in the new sixth film.

He explained that the choice not to feature her wasn’t a reflection on her personally, but because so many actors from the original movie were already involved. According to Wayans, he ‘loves Shannon’ and it wasn’t a personal decision, simply that ‘too many people’ were returning for the project.

He did point out that she could potentially come back in the future, and emphasized that the franchise was stable and not going to disappear.

Wayans reacted after Shannon Elizabeth recently told Entertainment Tonight she’d be open to returning as Buffy in Scary Movie 6. The American Pie actress said, “Oh yeah, absolutely,” when asked about reprising the role.

She really wanted to be in the movie and was disappointed when she didn’t get cast, but she’s still excited to watch it as a viewer. The 52-year-old actress said seeing the cast reunited will be a wonderful experience.

During the interview, Elizabeth also talked about her experience playing the character. She explained that she was initially attracted to the script because Buffy was funny, had witty dialogue, and involved a lot of physical comedy. She felt it was a truly unique role.

She then talked about the famous beauty pageant scene from the original movie and how much it still resonates with people today. She remembered meeting fans at events who had memorized the entire scene, reciting every single line perfectly – something she always found remarkable.

She shared that the positive response to her work has been incredibly heartwarming, saying many people have expressed their love for it. However, she also explained that when you’re in the middle of creating something, it’s hard to fully appreciate how it’s being received. She added that you’re simply focused on doing your best work.
