One of the greatest 1980s rock bands, Bon Jovi, is finally getting a biopic from Universal.
Starting as a local band in Sayreville, New Jersey in 1983, Bon Jovi, fronted by Jon Bon Jovi, quickly became one of the most popular rock bands of the 1980s. They’ve sold over 130 million albums and have been honored with inductions into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (2018) and the Songwriters Hall of Fame (2009).
Universal Pictures is working on a new biopic about the beginning of Bon Jovi’s career, according to Deadline. Several studios wanted the project, but Universal—known for music biopics like Straight Outta Compton and 8 Mile—secured the rights. Jon Bon Jovi himself is involved, and the filmmakers will have access to the band’s complete music library.
