Chris Hemsworth is gearing up to reprise his role in Extraction. Production on the highly anticipated third movie in the action series is starting up sooner than many expected.
According to What’s On Netflix, filming for Extraction 3 is currently planned to start in June 2026 and wrap up in October 2026. They emphasize that this timeline could shift, but it aligns with information they’ve been receiving for a while.
Extraction 3 Filming Locations Revealed
The third Extraction movie will be filmed in Sydney, Australia – a first for the series, as it’s the first installment to shoot in Chris Hemsworth’s home country. While Sydney was originally planned for the second movie, filming had to move due to COVID-19 lockdowns. Extraction 3 is also expected to film in Europe, though the specific locations haven’t been announced yet.
Details about the plot of Extraction 3 are still secret, but Joe Russo revealed at the 2024 New York Comic Con that Idris Elba will return as Alcott, also known as The Man in the Suit. He first appeared in Extraction 2. Russo hinted that the dynamic between Elba and Chris Hemsworth will be further explored in the next film, saying fans who enjoyed their relationship in the previous movie will like Extraction 3.
The end of Extraction 2 showed Idris Elba’s character, Alcott, offering Rake and Nik a deal: their freedom in exchange for taking on missions for his employer. This sets up the potential storyline for a third movie. Elba hinted in 2024 that Alcott has more to his story.
Extraction Is 1 of Netflix’s Biggest Franchises
Sam Hargrave directed the first two Extraction films and will also direct the third. The original movie, inspired by the graphic novel Ciudad, premiered on Netflix in April 2020. It follows Rake on a dangerous mission to rescue the kidnapped son of an Indian drug lord in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Nine months after the events of the first movie, Extraction 2 finds Rake and his team taking on another dangerous job: saving the family of a powerful Georgian gangster from a heavily guarded prison.
Both action movies were very popular on Netflix. The first, Extraction, was Netflix’s most-watched original film when it came out. The second movie also did well, ranking as the tenth most popular English-language film with 129.3 million views.
