Netflix seems to be moving away from Meghan Markle. They recently announced they were ending their collaboration with her lifestyle brand, As Ever, which launched just eleven months ago at the same time as her Netflix series, With Love, Meghan.
This decision comes after Netflix adjusted its deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s production company in August. Originally, they had a broad agreement, but it was changed to a first-look deal, which industry experts see as a step down.
Netflix Exits As Ever
As Ever is a shop where customers can purchase luxurious and often pricey items like jams, teas, candles, wine, and home decor. Meghan Markle is said to have hand-picked the products in each collection. The brand initially received funding and support from Netflix.

A Netflix representative told Variety that the company respects Meghan Markle and has concluded its partnership with her. They indicated this was the plan all along, as Meghan will now move forward with the project on her own. No specific reasons for the separation were publicly shared.
A representative for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle told Variety that they appreciate Netflix’s support during their first year of work together. They added that their production company, Archewell Productions, has grown quickly and is now prepared to operate independently.
Netflix is no longer directly working on the documentary As Ever, marking a shift in their relationship with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s production company.
From Overall Deal to First-Look
Last August, Netflix changed its deal with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s production company, Archewell Productions. Instead of guaranteeing funding for multiple projects, Netflix now has the first opportunity to consider any new projects Archewell develops, but isn’t obligated to finance them.
The news arrived shortly after the second season of With Love, Meghan became available. The first season, which premiered in March, wasn’t well-received by critics or viewers, currently scoring only 23% with critics and 26% with audiences on Rotten Tomatoes.

This change in how Netflix handles its projects is similar to their recent decision regarding the series As Ever. Netflix is now being more careful with content from Archewell and has stopped directly working with Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand. As Ever will now function on its own.
These changes demonstrate a key difference: As Ever has complete independence, while Archewell’s projects will now require more approval from Netflix, showing how Netflix is changing its strategy for working with the Sussexes.
Meghan Markle and Netflix: An Uncertain Future
Okay, so it seems like Harry and Meghan and Netflix are parting ways on good terms, but when you look at the bigger picture, it’s a bit worrying. I noticed that the two docuseries they already made – Harry & Meghan and the one about polo – aren’t continuing. And while With Love, Meghan hasn’t been officially cancelled yet, it doesn’t look like it’s definitely happening either. It makes you wonder what’s going on!

Netflix isn’t abandoning Meghan Markle, but is adjusting its approach. The changes to their partnerships with both Archewell and As Ever show how difficult it is for the streaming service to balance what viewers want, financial considerations, and creative goals. It’s unclear if Meghan Markle’s lifestyle brand can succeed without Netflix. How Archewell manages its current deal will likely be crucial in determining the future of Harry and Meghan’s work in media.
