Russell Crowe’s Gritty World War 2 Thriller Is Officially Dominating the U.S. Netflix Charts After $57M Box Office Run

Russell Crowe’s new World War II thriller has quickly become a huge hit on Netflix, topping the streaming charts. This success follows a strong performance in theaters back in November.

As of March 9th, the movie Nuremberg is the third most popular film on Netflix in the United States, according to FlixPatrol. It debuted at number three yesterday, March 8th, and has remained there, surpassing other popular titles like The Grand Finale of Downton Abbey (#6) and KPop Demon Hunters (#9). The film stars Russell Crowe as Hermann Göring, a key leader in the Nazi party and a prominent German politician and military figure.

Nuremberg’s World War II Story Emerges as New Streaming Hit

The film Nuremberg follows U.S. Army psychiatrist Douglas Kelley as he assesses the mental states of prominent Nazi leaders like Goring before the famous Nuremberg trials. Rami Malek and Russell Crowe star alongside Leo Woodall (known from The White Lotus), John Slattery (Mad Men), Colin Hanks (Fargo), Wrenn Schmidt (For All Mankind), and other talented actors.

Sony Pictures released the movie Nuremberg in theaters in November 2025, and it received widespread praise. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has a 71% approval rating based on reviews from 195 critics. While reviewers particularly liked Russell Crowe’s acting, calling the film a well-made historical drama, some felt the story moved slowly and could have been more emotionally engaging.

Viewers actually liked the movie even more than professional critics, and it currently has a very positive rating of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on over 1,000 reviews. According to audience feedback, Russell Crowe and Rami Malek give powerful performances in Nuremberg, a film that is both emotionally impactful and historically accurate.

Nuremberg Enjoyed an Impressive Run at the Box Office, Too

The film was a hit with both critics and viewers, and it also made a lot of money. It premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival before coming to theaters, where it received a remarkable four-minute standing ovation – one of the longest the festival has ever seen.

As a fan, I was so thrilled to see Nuremberg do so well in theaters! It made over $14.5 million here in the US, and another $42.3 million worldwide. That brings the total to over $56.8 million, which is amazing when you consider Sony only spent between $7 and $10 million to make it. Definitely a huge success!

With Nuremberg continuing to climb the Netflix charts, it’s clear audiences are eager for compelling historical dramas – and Russell Crowe and Sami Malik delivered exactly that.

Nuremberg is now streaming on Netflix in the United States.
