LOTR Star Doesn’t Confirm Frodo’s Return Despite the Cat Being ‘Out of the Bag’

It’s been almost 25 years since Elijah Wood first played Frodo Baggins, but he’s still open to revisiting the role. The 45-year-old actor recently discussed the chance of appearing in the new movie, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’.

Andy Serkis is directing a new film, The Hunt for Gollum, planned for release in 2027. The movie will fill in the story between the end of The Hobbit films and the start of The Lord of the Rings. Although Elijah Wood hasn’t officially confirmed the project, he recently hinted that the rumors might be true in an interview with The Times U.K.

While it hasn’t been confirmed yet, Ian McKellen hinted at it back in August at a convention,” Wood explained. “There’s a strong possibility we’ll be making another film. I can’t say anything for sure until it’s officially announced, but I’m really excited about it.”

The actor acknowledged that fans naturally feel hesitant about revisiting J.R.R. Tolkien’s world. He explained, “People get understandably protective and want to make sure it stays true to the original, but this story is really enjoyable and exciting. It truly feels like a team reuniting.”

The interviewer pointed out that Ian McKellen had previously said he wouldn’t want anyone else to play Gandalf, and Elijah Wood agreed completely, saying he felt the same way about his role as Frodo. “I understand that completely,” Wood said. “As long as I’m able, I wouldn’t want anyone else to take on the part of Frodo either.”

Elijah Wood first played Frodo in the 2001 film The Fellowship of the Ring and later returned to the role in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. He considers any potential future appearances as both an actor and a fan. “It would be a lot of fun,” Wood said, “like being in the audience and seeing a beloved character like Gandalf appear on screen. As a fan myself, I’m excited to see how any new projects would come together.”

For now, fans eagerly await official casting announcements.
