A popular Keanu Reeves movie from a well-known series is currently very popular on HBO Max, seeing a renewed boost in viewers three years after it first came out in theaters.
According to FlixPatrol, John Wick: Chapter 4 rose to the #2 spot on HBO Max’s list of the most popular movies in the U.S. as of March 7, 2026. It had debuted at #3 just two days earlier, on March 5. The only movie performing better at that time was Dead of Winter. Remarkably, John Wick 4 was beating out newer releases, even though it had been out for years – including If I Had Legs I’d Kick You from A24 at #7 and the Neon documentary 2073 at #10.
John Wick 4 Was a Massive Box-Office Success in 2023
John Wick, the popular action movie starring Keanu Reeves, featured the hero in his most challenging fight yet. Released in 2023, the film delivered the revenge story fans had been waiting for, as John Wick embarked on a dangerous quest to get payback against the powerful High Table and those who betrayed him.
Alongside Keanu Reeves, John Wick: Chapter 4 included Donnie Yen as a relentless assassin determined to kill Wick, and Bill Skarsgård as a high-ranking member of the High Table who wanted Wick permanently removed. Laurence Fishburne, Lance Reddick, and Ian McShane all returned to reprise their roles from earlier films in the series.
John Wick: Chapter 4 reached a new high for the series at the box office, surpassing the $328 million earned by Chapter 3. The movie was a hit with both critics and audiences, receiving a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating on Rotten Tomatoes with a 94% approval score based on 385 reviews.
Critics say John Wick: Chapter 4 delivers more of what fans love – plenty of stylish action with Keanu Reeves expertly taking down his opponents. Most viewers agree, giving the film a 93% approval rating based on over 10,000 reviews. A few people did feel the movie was a bit lengthy, however.
John Wick Chapter 5 Remains in Development (But Its Future is Uncertain)
Okay, so Lionsgate clearly loves the John Wick movies, and they originally intended to film the fifth one right after Chapter 4. COVID threw a wrench in those plans, though, and they ended up reworking Chapter 4 to feel like a pretty definitive ending for John Wick’s story. But honestly, with how much money the fourth film made, it’s no shock they’re reconsidering and planning more!
For a while, it was unclear if John Wick: Chapter 5 would happen. Lionsgate confirmed in May 2023 that they were working on it. A year later, in December 2024, Keanu Reeves said he’d be open to returning, but was worried about how physically demanding the role would be. Though he seemed hesitant in March 2025, Lionsgate stated in April that a fifth film was still planned, with both Reeves and director Chad Stahelski expected to be involved.
