Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale Sets Netflix Release Day in March 2026

Even months after its release in cinemas, the series continues to delight viewers. The latest installment recently became available on Netflix as of March 7th.

Downton Abbey first premiered in 2010 and quickly became a beloved series. Following its six-season run, the story continued with three movies. The latest film, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, was released in theaters on September 12, 2025, and is now available to stream on Netflix, allowing fans to revisit the Crawley family.

The Grand Finale Wrapped the Franchise

The show originally ran for 52 episodes, and the story didn’t end there. Three movies continued the saga, starting with Downton Abbey in 2019. This was followed by Downton Abbey: A New Era in 2022, and finally, Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale.

The newest film concludes the story of the Crawleys. Producer Gareth Neame stated he doesn’t currently plan any further installments, but didn’t completely rule them out, saying, “Who knows what the future holds?” He emphasized that his main hope is that fans enjoy the movie and feel it provides a satisfying ending to the series.

Julian Fellowes, the creator of the series, has hinted at the potential for more installments. He acknowledged that continuing the story is “a possibility,” but so far, there haven’t been any official announcements.

The final Downton Abbey movie earned $103.1 million at the box office, with a production budget of $50 million. While not a blockbuster, it received the best reviews of the three Downton Abbey films, earning a ‘Certified Fresh’ rating of 91% from critics – just a bit lower than the 92% approval for the entire series. Viewers loved it too, giving it a 95% rating, making it the second highest-rated installment after 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era.

HBO Max Just Released a Downton Abbey Parody

Period dramas have always been a hit with audiences, and the continued popularity of shows like Downton Abbey demonstrates that interest hasn’t waned. Fortunately, fans have plenty to watch – HBO offers The Gilded Age, and Apple TV has the lesser-known but excellent The Buccaneers.

It’s no surprise that a spoof also emerged, with Tom Felton’s Fackham Hall. Released in theaters on December 5th, shortly after Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, the film was directed by Jim O’Hanlon – known for the charming holiday film Your Christmas or Mine? – and written by Steve Dawson, Andrew Dawson, Tim Inman, Jimmy Carr, and Patrick Carr.

The historical comedy film featured Harry Potter actor, alongside Thomasin McKenzie, Ben Radcliffe, Emma Laird, Tom Goodman-Hill, Ramon Tikaram, Tim McMullan, Anna Maxwell Martin, Sue Johnston, and Damian Lewis. It was released on March 6th.
