Marvel’s Next Avengers are Perfect for the MCU

While we anticipate seeing several superhero teams emerge soon, Marvel Studios might be planning a surprising new group for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday, set to release on December 18, 2026, will showcase two existing Avengers lineups – Sam Wilson’s team and the former Thunderbolts (now known as the New Avengers). However, Marvel could also use the movie to debut an entirely different team of heroes.

Besides the existing Avengers groups, Doomsday will feature the Fantastic Four from Earth 828, the X-Men from Earth 10005, and Black Panther’s team from Earth 616. They’ll be teaming up with the Avengers and New Avengers to fight Doctor Doom (played by Robert Downey Jr.), which is already generating a lot of buzz. Marvel has hinted that even more teams might join the battle, with the Young Avengers being a strong possibility. However, Marvel might have waited too long to introduce the Young Avengers, so an unexpected team could actually be a better fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios Is Ready to Debut the Next Avengers Team in Avengers: Doomsday

I’m really hoping Marvel brings the Next Avengers into a future movie! They’re the kids of the original Avengers, and they first appeared in a cool animated film back in 2008, fighting Ultron. It would be amazing to see them as a fully formed team, especially knowing they come from a universe that’s already been through a lot thanks to a really powerful, evil AI.

The Next Avengers were a team of young heroes from Earth 10943, consisting of the children of famous Avengers: Henry Pym Jr. (son of Giant-Man and the Wasp), Torunn (daughter of Thor and Lady Sif), Francis Barton (son of Hawkeye and Mockingbird), Azari T’Challa (son of Black Panther and Storm), and James Rogers (son of Captain America and Black Widow). Although this specific group hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s possible we could see the children of the Avengers form their own superhero team in the future.

Following the trend of legacy characters in Marvel comics, a new team of Avengers could be formed by the children of the original MCU heroes. We’ve already met several potential members: Morgan Stark, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts’ daughter who appeared in Avengers: Endgame; Love, who gained cosmic powers and was adopted by Thor in Thor: Love and Thunder; Skaar, the son of Smart Hulk introduced in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law; and Lila Barton, hinted at as a skilled archer in Endgame, who is the child of Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter.

The MCU Has Waited Too Long to Introduce the Young Avengers

You might be asking why we’re introducing a new team of young heroes in Avengers: Doomsday when Marvel has already hinted at the Young Avengers in the movies and TV shows. While Marvel has been building towards the Young Avengers for a while, delays mean those characters are getting older. So, the ‘Next Avengers’ could be a good alternative way to introduce a new generation of heroes.

Several characters who’ve been part of the Young Avengers in Marvel comics have already appeared in live-action Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects. These include Ms. Marvel (played by Iman Vellani), Hawkeye (Hailee Steinfeld), Stature (Kathryn Newton), Kid Loki (Jack Veal), Eli Bradley (Elijah Richardson), and America Chavez (Xochitl Gomez). There’s also speculation that Ironheart (Dominique Thorne) and White Tiger (Camila Rodriguez) could become members of the team.

We’ve seen clues in the Marvel Cinematic Universe suggesting the Young Avengers are being set up, especially with talk of forming a new team. However, it’s still unknown when Marvel will officially assemble them. Avengers: Doomsday could have been the perfect opportunity, but it might be too late – some potential members are now grown up. This could mean we see a new, even younger team – the Next Avengers – instead.

The Next Avengers Are the Perfect Legacy Heroes to the MCU’s Best Characters

After the events of Avengers: Endgame in 2019, Marvel has been introducing new heroes to carry on the legacies of its original characters. For example, Sam Wilson has become the new Captain America, taking over from Steve Rogers, and Yelena Belova is now Black Widow after Natasha Romanoff. Following the tragic loss of Chadwick Boseman, Shuri has stepped into the role of Black Panther.

It’s been wonderful seeing classic heroes reappear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it would be even more impactful to introduce the children of fallen Avengers as the next generation of heroes. Characters like Morgan Stark, Lila Barton, Love, and Skaar could team up with an older Steve Rogers Jr. in a future Avengers film, potentially titled Doomsday, and they could be joined by other heroes’ children to carry on their parents’ legacies.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever featured characters like Shuri, and Cassie Lang, along with Billy and Tommy Maximoff’s parents, who are established Avengers. These characters are all positioned to carry on their families’ heroic roles, and Avengers: Doomsday could finalize their development into full-fledged heroes. Although not all members of the Young Avengers have a direct connection to the superhero world through family or genetics, all of the Next Avengers do.

Introducing the Next Avengers Would Fix Some of the MCU’s Biggest Loose Ends

Forming the Next Avengers team would be a great way to tie up several unresolved storylines from the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. For example, Skaar’s introduction in She-Hulk still feels unexplained, Morgan Stark hasn’t appeared since Endgame, and we haven’t learned what Cassie Lang’s future holds after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. The first trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, released in December 2025, heavily hinted at the formation of a new team – the Next Avengers – by introducing the child of Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter. While the child’s identity remains a mystery, many believe it could be James Rogers, a key member of the Next Avengers from Marvel Comics’ alternate universes. As a huge Marvel fan, the rumors of Chris Evans coming back are really exciting to me, and it sounds like it could be more than just a fun cameo for the audience. Honestly, if they just reassemble the original team, it’ll feel a little like they’re doing it just to please us, especially since a lot of those heroes are getting up there in age! What I really hope Marvel does is introduce the Next Avengers – a whole new generation of heroes to carry the torch. It would be amazing to see those legacies continue and finally give fans the young team we’ve been waiting for.
