As a sci-fi fan, I have to admit Netflix’s Love, Death + Robots really brought the anthology format back to life. Each episode was a completely new story – one minute you’re watching a story about self-aware cleaning robots, the next it’s an epic space battle or mutant gladiators, and even… yogurt taking over the planet! For a long time, LD+R was the anthology series for anyone craving futuristic tales. But honestly? Prime Video’s recent attempt at the same thing has really surprised me. It’s not just good, it’s legitimately one of the best shows they have on the platform.
Having the creator of Love, Death + Robots involved was a big win for Prime Video’s new series. Tim Miller, who made LD+R, moved to Prime Video to develop an anthology series similar to his hit Netflix show, aiming for the same level of quality and ambition. The series featured both adaptations and original stories based on popular and classic video games – including one that wasn’t so successful. Notably, many of these games were being adapted into visual media for the very first time, and the show established a high standard for future adaptations in the works.
Following the success of Love, Death + Robots, Tim Miller created Secret Level for Prime Video. This 15-episode series, released in December 2024, adapted popular video games – sometimes featuring multiple games within a single episode. While it didn’t initially receive as much attention from viewers and critics as its predecessor, Secret Level has since become recognized as one of the best science fiction shows available on the streaming platform.
‘Secret Level’ Ranges From Hyper-Faithful Stories to Bonkers Adaptations
The show Secret Level didn’t approach every game with the same care. While its episodes on Sisu, Warhammer 40,000, and Dungeons & Dragons/Baldur’s Gate were excellent adaptations, the Pac-Man episode was a different story.
So, you want to create a story based on Pac-Man? Imagine turning that simple game into something much darker. Think of Pac-Man as a prisoner trapped in a huge maze, desperately trying to escape while being chased by ghosts. Add a mysterious guide, similar to those found in the Destiny game, and present the whole thing as a gritty, serious animated story inspired by the Warhammer 40k universe.
Several stories let you experience events through the eyes of the main characters. However, the episode “The Outer Worlds: The Company We Keep” really shines by broadening the game’s universe. It centers on an ordinary citizen within the game who is taken advantage of by the powerful corporations controlling the galaxy.
‘Secret Level’ Has an Astonishing Voice Cast (We Mean ASTONISHING!)

Secret Level boasts a stellar voice cast, featuring well-known actors like Aleks Le, Nelson Lee, Steve Blum, Bridget Oberlin, and Fred Tatasciore. The show consistently attracts top talent across its episodes. Keanu Reeves generated significant buzz playing the pilot in the Armored Core episode, alongside Patrick Schwarzenegger and Temuera Morrison. Other prominent voices in the series include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ricky Whittle, Kevin Hart, and Gabriel Luna.
