Jabba the Hutt’s Son in The Mandalorian & Grogu Gets Bizarre Comparison

Jon Favreau revealed some surprising details about Rotta the Hutt, Jabba the Hutt’s son, in The Mandalorian and Grogu.

The Mandalorian and Grogu are coming to U.S. theaters in May! This new movie, directed by Jon Favreau, continues the story from the Disney+ series, with Pedro Pascal returning as Din Djarin. Jeremy Allen White, known for The Bear, provides the voice for the character Rotta the Hutt.

Who did Jon Favreau compare Jabba the Hutt’s son to?

In an interview with Empire Magazine, Jon Favreau drew a comparison between Rotta the Hutt and Grogu from The Mandalorian to the character of Adonis ‘Donnie’ Creed, played by Michael B. Jordan in the Creed film series.

Favreau was curious about how being the child of a well-known character like Jabba the Hutt might impact someone’s path and how it shapes their journey. He finds the idea quite amusing.

I was so excited to hear more about Rotta! Apparently, he’s absolutely thriving, battling it out as a real gladiator in the fighting pits. And it’s fascinating to learn that Dee Bradley Baker, who voiced Jabba the Hutt, used that as inspiration for Rotta’s voice – he even said his own voice changed when he played the character! It’s clear they really thought about how to connect these two Hutts.

With the evil Empire defeated, various Imperial leaders are still causing trouble across the galaxy. The newly formed New Republic is trying to safeguard the freedom won by the Rebellion, and they’ve asked for help from Din Djarin, a famous bounty hunter from the Mandalorian culture, and his young trainee, Grogu.

Alongside Pedro Pascal and Rayna White, Sigourney Weaver will appear in the upcoming Star Wars film as a character named Ward. Jon Favreau produces the movie with Kathleen Kennedy, Dave Filoni, and Ian Bryce, and Filoni and Favreau also wrote the screenplay.

Fans can see The Mandalorian and Grogu in movie theaters starting May 22, 2026. All three seasons of the show are already available for streaming on Disney+.
