Mario Galaxy Movie Unveils First Look At Legend of Zelda Cameo Villain (Photos)

A character originally from the Legend of Zelda series will appear in the next Super Mario movie, and fans have now gotten their first glimpse of how the character will look. With Mario being a long-time favorite franchise, it’s no surprise the 2023 Super Mario Bros. Movie was a box office hit. Nintendo and Illumination are hoping to achieve the same success with The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is scheduled to release in theaters in April 2026.

The official X account for The Super Mario Bros. Movie recently revealed a new poster. It features key characters like Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Bowser, and Bowser Jr. The poster also introduces Wart, a character fans will recognize from both the Mario and Legend of Zelda games.

In the poster, Wart is positioned below Mouser and Birdo, and to the left of Mario’s leg. He’s smaller than some of the other characters, suggesting he might not be a central figure. Still, his appearance is significant because he originally came from both the Zelda and Mario games.

Similar to his appearance in the video games, Wart is wearing his crown, a sleeveless robe, and a pendant on a gold chain.

Wart first appeared as the main villain in the video game Super Mario Bros. 2. He led a group called the 8 Bits and used a stolen machine, the Dream Machine, to conquer the land of Subcon. Players face Wart as the final boss in Super Mario Bros. 2.

Although Wart first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2, he also made a brief appearance in a Legend of Zelda game.

Wart made an appearance in the Game Boy game The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Unlike his role as a villain in Super Mario Bros. 2, Wart isn’t an enemy here. He can be found in a pond under the Signpost Maze on Koholint Island, and he’ll help Link if the player pays him 300 Rupees.

Wart first appeared as a simple 2D character in the original game. The recent remake of Link’s Awakening on the Nintendo Switch gave him a 3D appearance for the very first time, marking the first time Wart had ever been modeled in 3D for a video game.
