James Gunn’s New DC Series Lanterns Officially Sets Release Month On HBO After Multiple Delays

James Gunn’s DC Universe will prominently feature Hal Jordan and John Stewart in a new series called Lanterns, and the show is officially scheduled to arrive soon.

HBO has officially announced that its new series, Lanterns, will premiere in August and will also be available to stream on HBO Max. This announcement comes shortly after the theatrical release of Supergirl on June 26th.

Today’s trailer for Lanterns revealed the game’s release month, but the specific date will be announced soon.

The upcoming DCU series stars Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre as the Green Lanterns, Hal and John, with Chandler’s experienced hero mentoring the new one. The show is led by showrunner Chris Mundy, who developed it alongside writers Damon Lindelof and Tom King.

The series Lanterns follows two police officers from outer space who become involved in a puzzling murder case happening right here on Earth, in the American Midwest. Nathan Fillion will reprise his role as Guy Gardner, a character he first played in Superman. Joining them is Ulrich Thomsen as Sinestro, a well-known villain from the Green Lantern universe.

Currently, Lanterns is the only DC Universe TV show planned for 2026, but DC’s movie schedule will continue after the introduction of Hal Jordan. Clayface, the well-known Batman villain who can change his shape, will be released in theaters on October 23rd.
