‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’ Just Cast a Future Lannister for Season 2

The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has finished to great success with both viewers and critics. Ratings steadily climbed throughout the season, culminating in a record high for the finale. With a clear demand for more, HBO has already begun production on Season 2.

The second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will adapt George R.R. Martin’s story The Sword and the Shield. It will continue the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall (Peter Claffey) and his squire, Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), as they journey beyond Ashford Meadow. The season will introduce new characters, and Deadline reports that HBO has already cast three of them.

Ser Estace Osgrey is an aging knight who owns a small territory in the Reach. Dunk enters his service during a time of drought and hardship for the region. Ser Eustace is grieving the loss of his wife and children and often spends his time lost in memories. Peter Mullan, known for his roles in shows like Ozark and the upcoming 2025 film I Swear, has been cast to play him by HBO.

Similar to Dunk, Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield works for Ser Eustace, though he doesn’t have a high opinion of him – he frequently refers to him as “Ser Useless” throughout the story. Ser Bennis is generally rude, disrespectful, and doesn’t prioritize cleanliness. While he and Dunk team up, their relationship is strained and often tense.

Babou Ceesay, who you might recognize from shows like Guerrilla and Into the Badlands, will play Ser Bennis. He recently played the villainous cyborg Morrow in Alien: Earth, proving he can deliver a powerful and potentially intimidating performance, even though Ser Bennis is expected to be a more subtle character.

Searchlight Pictures

Lady Rohanne Webber lives near Ser Eustace, but she controls far more land and employs many more people. They’ve been feuding for years, and their conflict is a major focus of the story in The Sword Sword. Lucy Boynton, known for her work in Bohemian Rhapsody and the miniseries A Cruel Love: The Ruth Ellis Story, will be portraying Lady Rohanne.

Lady Rohanne may seem like a minor character in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, but she actually becomes a key figure in the larger story of Game of Thrones. Years after the events of The Sworn Sword, she marries Gerold Lannister and they have children, including Tytos Lannister. Tytos is the father of Tywin Lannister, the powerful head of the Lannister family we see in Game of Thrones. Because Tywin’s children – Tyrion, Jaime, and Cersei – all play significant roles, Lady Rohanne unknowingly has a huge impact on the future, despite her limited role in the earlier stories.

Her character in The Sworn Sword is compelling enough to be noteworthy on its own. If the show follows the books, Lady Rohanne will likely be the most complex and well-developed female character we’ve seen so far, with Tanselle from Season 1 as her only real comparison – though Tanselle had a smaller, supporting role. We’ll get to see Lady Rohanne and the new cast members in action when Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres on HBO in 2027.
