In season 2 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, the story took viewers to Skull Island and introduced a terrifying new creature. While exploring an old, abandoned Monarch base, May and Kentaro encountered a four-legged, meat-eating monster that hadn’t appeared in any live-action Monsterverse films or shows before.
With movies like Kong: Skull Island and the Skull Island series on Netflix, we’ve already been introduced to many of the creatures living alongside Kong. Comics have also helped expand that world. Considering how large the island is, it’s logical that many species still remain undiscovered.
Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters’ Vinerat Monster Explained
The second season of Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters introduced new creatures and broadened the world of Skull Island. One of these creatures, the Vinerat, is a frightening, mole rat-like monster that attempted to attack Kentaro and May.
The Vinerat, according to the official Monarch page on X, mainly lives in tunnels beneath Skull Island. Because it lives in constant darkness, the Vinerat hunts using sound and vibrations. Its unusual look comes from “patchy, scabrous hide overgrown with vine-like growths,” which is how it got its name.
The Vinerat, the creatures May and Rentaro found in the Monarch facility, tend to appear in old, forgotten places like abandoned buildings and caves. This explains why they’re only now being discovered within Legendary’s Monsterverse.
The Vinerat’s death by forklift showed that, while intimidating, they aren’t particularly hard to kill. However, that could change if multiple Vinerats attack at once. It’s currently unknown whether they usually hunt alone, as seen in the episode, or if they travel and hunt in groups. If they work together, they could become a serious danger to Monarch’s soldiers.
As a big fan of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, I’m really excited to hear that season 2 isn’t the end for Kong! Because of that, I’m hoping we’ll see those creepy Vinerats again before the story wraps up. I think they could play a big role if our heroes ever have to explore the tunnels beneath Skull Island – that would be amazing!
